An Estacada, Oregon, man, has been arrested for an alleged robbery and endangering the welfare of a child after he emerged from his home on Saturday, holding his 7-month-old son up as a shield after police surrounded his home.
Police believe Raliegh Reynolds was likely armed when they descended on his home, unwilling to cooperate with police.
Police were responding to a call about a burglary. When police arrived to the scene of the alleged robbery, they saw Reynolds jump a fence and enter a home which turned out to be his sister’s house, where he was staying with his infant son.
After repeated attempts by Reynolds to flee the house and escape apprehension, Reynolds finally emerged holding his baby in front of him in what police describe as an effort to shield himself against possible gun fire.
According to KPTV, police had to negotiate with Reynolds in order for him to hand his infant son over to safety.
The baby was eventually handed over to police who then gave the baby to family members outside the home.
Reynolds was taken into custody, and charged with numerous offenses including obstructing arrest, endangering the welfare of a minor, resisting arrest and burglary.
