Fans of The Office would probably not have any trouble picturing office dweeb Dwight Schrute wanting to slap on medieval garb and swing a battle axe around on the HBO series, Game of Thrones. But it turns out the actor that plays him wouldn’t mind it himself.
Rainn Wilson talked to Access Hollywood on Sunday before the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards and chatted about one of his favorite shows on television, saying he would “go and do anything” just to be a part of it.
“Just put me in blue paint and armor and yeah, a giant scar on my face. I would love it.”
So if Wilson did get his shot, which of the Game of Thrones families does he see himself joining alliances with — the Targaryens? The Lannisters?
“I’d be a Greyjoy,” Wilson said. “Rainn Greyjoy.”
Game of Thrones picked up thirteen Emmy nominations, but only came home with two wins, one for Outstanding Main Title Design for its mesmerizing title sequence of spinning gears and rising kingdoms. The other Emmy was picked up by Peter Dinklage, who won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Tyrion Lannister.
While Wilson may have been happy for Game of Thrones, he thought the awards got it dead wrong when it failed to give the comedy award to his Office co-star Steve Carell, passing him over for a sixth time.
Wilson tweeted Sunday night, “The world of TV should be ashamed of itself that Steve Carell never won an Emmy for Michael Gary Scott. Goodnight.”
Carrell left the show at the end of season seven.
Season 8 of ‘The Office’ premieres September 22, 2011, at 9/8c on NBC.
