Boys

We think we might have drawn the line at, oh, one snake in our son’s room. But “Snake Boy” Bokamosho Nthelang, a 15-year-old in South Africa, has turned his bedroom into a snake sanctuary housing 150 of the slithering reptiles, several of which are poisonous. And wouldn’t you know it, Nthelang keeps getting bitten by them:
He has been bitten twice before, once by a cobra and once by a puffadder.
After the previous two incidents all the dangerous snakes were removed from his house by the department of environment and conservation.
Last week Nthelang, from Mothibistad near Kuruman, was admitted to Kimberley Medi-Clinic after he was bitten by yet another lethal snake.
Spokesperson for the ministry of environment and conservation, Les Abrahams, said that during a previous visit to the boy’s home, they found that the youngster was fascinated by the reptiles.
“We will consider giving him formal training in snake handling in the future. However, no permission has been given to him to keep all the snakes.”

Finally, a feel good story around here. And also an important lesson about teaching your kids basic first aid lessons. Three boys in northwest Indiana, ranging from ages 9 to 14, called 911 and performed CPR on their mother, Deanna Faught, after she passed out in their home from a severe asthma attack. Their actions are being credited with saving Faught’s life:
“She wasn’t breathing. Her heart stopped beating. And they do the mouth-to-mouth thing and I pushed the stomach for her. And we switched,” said Scott Kuta, Deanna’s son.
“God was on our side and everything,” said Dawson Kuta, Deanna’s son.
“We were pretty happy that my mom is all right and everything,” said Dakota Kuta, Deanna’s son.
Emergency room doctor Jonathan Renkas says those extra minutes of life support kept Faught going until paramedics arrived.
“The kids allowed this woman probably to oxygenate, or get help for a long enough period of time, where EMS was able to arrive and resuscitate her and get her to the emergency room for more care,” said Dr. Jonathan Renkas, Methodist Hospital.

It’s not the terrorists we have to worry about, it’s little boys playing with matches. First one boy starts a massive California wildfire, now another in Lawrenceburg, Ohio, took out half a block playing with a lighter, paper, and styrofoam, causing a half million dollars in damage.
At least eight people are homeless and one woman suffered a heart attack. She is in the hospital.
At an afternoon news conference, officials said the child did not mean to cause any damage. The boy is charged with a delinquent act of arson and is due in court Tuesday. If convicted he could be sentenced to juvenile detention until age 21.

Anybody with boys will appreciate these antics…
CHESTERTON, Ind. — Two fourth-grade boys mimicking a scene from the movie “A Christmas Story” wound up with their tongues stuck to a frozen flagpole.
Gavin Dempsey and James Alexander were serving on flag duty at Jackson Elementary School Friday morning, with the job of raising and lowering the school’s flags. They decided to see if their tongues really would stick to the cold metal.
“I decided to try it because I thought all of the TV shows were lies, but turns out I was wrong,” Gavin said.

Nice to have some inspiring news for once. Even though the house and their belongings were lost, a brave and responsible 6 year old boy is a hero to his family as he alerted his father and saved his toddler sister from his house that was a ablaze.
Good job, Jonathan James. You rock!
UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Fire officials in Union County are crediting a 6-year-old boy with saving his 2-year-old sister’s life by getting her out of their burning mobile home safely. “When she was in the house, I picked her up and walked out with her,” said Jonathan James.
The boy’s father, Charlie James, said he was cleaning in another room when his sons ran in to tell him the home was on fire. “As soon as I opened the door, smoked started rolling in. I ran and Jonathan grabbed my daughter and the other two kids and they went running out.”

They start ‘em mighty young down there — learning how to shoot a gun.. For this Arkansas Kindergartener, his gun toting skills just may have saved his life.
And, what makes this story even more awesome? — This boy is a descendant of Davy Crockett. Yep, for all ya old folks out there, sing it with me, “Davy! Daaaaavy Crockett! King of the Wild Frontier!”
Dewitt - Yesterday in Arkansas County, and Arkansan killed a black bear weighing more than 400 pounds. And what really makes the story amazing is that the hunter was just a boy – a kindergarten boy.
(Tre Merritt, Five-year-old Hunter) “I was up in the stand and I seen the bear. It came from the thicket and it was beside the road and I shot it.”
Tre’s grandfather was in the stand with him at the time. He says Tre did it all by himself.

While this could be a very dangerous situation, my hope is that this dumb 13 year old was arrested to scare the be-Jesus outta him and that they’ll drop the charges (assuming he doesn’t already have a record).
He’s dumb. He’s a kid. He needs some sense knocked into him, not prison time, in my opinion.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested Monday night on suspicion of reckless endangerment after he allegedly pointed a green laser at a Phoenix Police Department helicopter, police said.
The helicopter was struck with the laser around 6:30 p.m., police said.
“As soon as I saw the light, I tried to turn my eyes away,” said Phoenix police Officer Bruce Bates, who had been flying the helicopter Monday night.

Can’t we all just get along?

The 13-year-old was listed in extremely critical condition Monday night. The brothers were fighting in the living room of their southwest Phoenix home Monday afternoon.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
In cases like these (not that there are a lot of cases like these to compare to), I fully support prosecuting the parents of these boys. These kids are 8 and 9 years old. You have to ask yourself how in the world they would even know HOW to rape another child and what would motivate them to do it and where the *%$# the parents were????
I can’t say there has ever been a moment when I didn’t know where my 8 or 9 year old was and my child has yet to wonder the streets unsupervised at that age.
Have they done DNA matches with the rape kit? This all seems so bizarre and because it’s so incredibly bizarre, I think we need to ask the tough questions. Praise the girl for coming forward, but solidify the accusations with evidence. I hope this isn’t true because it is completely revolting.
ACWORTH, Ga. — Three boys ages 8 and 9 were being held Monday in a detention center on charges of kidnapping and raping an 11-year-old girl in the woods near a suburban apartment complex, officials said.
The alleged attack happened Thursday and the girl’s mother reported it to authorities Sunday, Acworth police Capt. Wayne Dennard said.
“The juvenile victim stated that an 8-year-old boy and two 9-year-old boys that she had been playing with earlier pulled her into a wooded area, where one of the boys raped her,” Dennard said.

An 11 year old, apparently given the blessing to drive for several months, lead police on a high speed chase…
BOUTTE, La. (AP) — An 11-year-old boy led police on a chase that reached speeds of more than 100 mph, leading to charges for him and his parents, who are accused of letting him drive for months, state police said.
Leona M. Calloway, 32, and Rodney Brown, 46, were charged with improper supervision of a minor and allowing an unlicensed minor to drive. Officials booked the boy, who was not identified because of his age, with felony flight from an officer, reckless driving, speeding, passing on the shoulder, improper lane usage and having no driver’s license.

This death is clearly the parents fault. A 13 year old boy is not capable and should not be responsible for taking care of 6 siblings on his own.
What a tragedy…
OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A 13-year-old boy is facing charges of first-degree murder, accused of killing his own 8-year-old brother. Demetrius Key was arrested late Tuesday night at a relative’s home in St. Cloud.
Police say Demetrius beat his brother, 8-year-old Lavarius Key, to death inside their Orange County apartment.
The boys’ second cousin, Brandon Holcy, watched the arrest go down Tuesday night and painted a picture of a 13-year-old Demetrius who was often left alone to care for more than a half-dozen siblings.

What a horrible waste. Is a 10 year old boy even capable of understanding the enormity of the situation? Why would he do such a thing? How could nobody see thing coming? Should a 10 year old boy be locked away fro 10+ years for something he might not have fully understood?
Timothy Douglas Byers was arrested Friday “primarily for his own safety,” said Darke County Prosecutor Richard Howell. He said Byers is the youngest Darke County child in recent memory to be locked up for a crime.
“This is the most tragic and certainly horrifying (case) that I or any one else can remember,” Howell said.
The boy didn’t intend to kill, the prosecutor said, but he was charged with the murder counts because the deaths occurred during the commission of another crime, the aggravated arson. If he is convicted, incarceration “could conceivably extend beyond his 21st birthday,” Howell said.
