A 13-year-old Springfield, Missouri, boy who was pulled from a swimming pool at Disney’s Pop resort last Sunday has died.
Anthony Johnson was in critical condition for nearly 36 hours before passing away on Tuesday morning.
Anthony was reportedly vacationing at his family from Missouri at the resort in Disney World when he start struggling in the resort’s pool. He was accompanied by his father, Kenneth Johnson, his little brother and his step-mother in what family members are calling “a dream vacation” with his father.
Anthony’s mother, Jessica Gilbreath responded to condolences on her Facebook page by saying, “Thankyou (sic), he touched alot (sic) of people, he is loved by so many. And that makes us all family thankyou (sic) for loving Him.”
The boy was apparently playing with relatives in the pool when a family noticed he had not been seen in an undetermined amount of time. Family members believe the boy went unnoticed for several minutes.
Anthony’s cousin reportedly found the boy underwater and pulled him out of the pool. The boy’s father immediately started CPR and the boy was rushed to Celebration Hospital and is now in critical condition.
Relatives say prior to Anthony being found struggling in the water, he was seen jumping and laughing in the pool around 9 P.M. on Sunday night.
Disney officials released the following statement upon being notified of the young teen’s death:
“We are saddened by Anthony Johnson’s passing and our hearts go out to his family, friends and loved ones. We have reached out to his family to offer care and assistance during this difficult time.”
