A Montreal high school teacher has been fired for showing his 10th grade class a video that police say depicts Canadian porn actor Luke Magnotta killing and dismembering his Chinese lover.
CNN reports the 29-year-old teacher was suspended on June 4 after showing his students the 10 minute video that morning as part of a usual routine.
“At the beginning of class each day, history teachers from the school talk about actuality, what happens around Montreal, and that was part of the actuality that day, so he wanted to talk about it, and kids said that they wanted to watch it, so basically he just did what the kids wanted to do,” said student Carole-Anne Bouchard-Giroux.
Although most of the students wanted to see the video, six students sought help from psychologists and counselors shortly afterward.
The Marguerite-Bourgeoys school board deemed the teacher’s actions to be inappropriate and decided to fire him after more than a week of being suspensed.
“The unacceptable character of this action taken by the teacher commanded an unequivocal measure,” Diane Lamarche-Venne, president of the school board, said in a statement.
