Two-year-old girl admitted to hospital with teeth knocked out, black eye and bleeding on the brain
Cynthia Cecilia Gonzalez of Longview Texas was arrested last Wednesday after her toddler daughter, Aura Delgado, 2-years-old, was taken to the hospital for serious injuries. Police believe the injuries were a result of what is believed to be atrocious physical abuse against the child. Baby Aura arrived at the Children’s Medical Hospital in Dallas with a black eye, bruised chest, cut gums, skull fracture, brain bleeds, a loose tooth and two front teeth missing which were allegedly knocked out by her mother punching her in the mouth.
Gonzalez, 26, is currently being held at the Gregg County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
According to the Longview News-Journal, Gonzalez’s other children and husband were interviewed and reportedly told medical staff that they witnessed the ongoing physical abuse of the toddler. One of the children claimed their mother would often mention wanting to sell Aura and complain about having to care for her. The children’s father also revealed that Gonzalez would hit the baby when she would cry or vomit.
Gonzales denied the charges. She claimed that Aura’s teeth were accidentally knocked out by a spoon in which the baby refused to give up and had to be pried from her mouth. She also claimed the broken bones and bruises was a result of Aura falling out of her bed. Aura’s father refuted those claims. He told medical staff that Aura can’t fall out of bed because of a birth defect that prevents her from being able to roll over.
Staff reported that baby Aura will likely sustain life-long brain damage resulting from the abuse.
