Toddler killed in pit bull attack

In West Haven, Connecticut, NBC News is reporting that a 20-month-old toddler has been killed in an attack by as many as three pit bulls. The toddler was visiting her aunt’s apartment at the time. Police were called to the scene that evening and told the girl had been bitten by a dog. She was unconscious when paramedics arrived and pronounced dead at the hospital.

The dogs belonged to the toddler’s aunt who said that they had never before been aggressive. Despite the lack of aggression, police were told that the dogs had been locked in another room during the girl’s visit, but they somehow managed to escape. Police are still trying to determine who may have been present during the actual attack.

The details of the case remain under investigation. All three dogs have already been euthanized.

I just wanted to say Thank You! Thank You for creating this website & keeping record of how these horrific Stories. I do Not blame the Breed for this attack, as I do Not ever Blame a Dog. This is the Fault of the Parent(s) & I am glad to see when the Fingers are Pointed the right Direction. People will turn this around and blame the Breed( watch there will be a Pit Bull Ban close-by).

This child’s death is the Parents & Aunt’s Fault!

As do I MzTx. It is so sad that these animals have such a bad rep. It is so sad that this baby has died but the parents/aunt should have monitored the child better. It is in a babies nature to hug/squeeze animals to show affection & a parent should teach to pet instead not hug or squeeze, you get any animal around the neck & their defense kicks in. I have encountered many un-known pits in my time & not once has one ever snarled at me let alone bite. The dogs, like the children, know what they have been taught & if raised in a loving enviroment, they are no worse than a lab. Something needs to be done to change the mindset folks have on these beautiful, sweet beings.
