Fake breasts for a 4-year-old?
As if wearing wigs, buckets of makeup, and glittery gowns wasn’t enough to look grown up, the mom of Toddlers and Tiaras contestant Maddy Jackson decided to give her daughter some extra “enhancements” as well.
As part of a Dolly Parton routine, Maddy, 4, sports a hot pink jumpsuit and bleach blonde wig to emulate the country star, but the costume also includes padded fake breasts and a fake butt to copy the singer’s famous assets.
Maddy’s mother Lindsay originally wore the costume when she was younger and competed in pageants — a fact she likes to constantly remind her daughter of — which she says makes the outfit more special.
Lindsay defended the controversial costume choice on the Today show, saying, “To some people, it’s over the top, to [Maddy and I] it’s just what happens… it’s just normal. When she wears the fake boobs and the fake butt, it’s just like an extra bonus.”
Maddy’s stylist, Michael Booth, however, didn’t agree with the normalcy of fake breasts on a 4-year-old, saying, “She’s very young, but hopefully the judges will perceive it in good taste.”
Lindsay claims that the Dolly Parton outfit is generally well-received, and that Maddy “tends to score fairly well with it.” She further defended Maddy’s endless pageant schedule, saying that it’s just a “hobby” and that “you wear hair, you wear make-up” in other activities such as “gymnastics or dance or competitive cheer-leading.”
Reactions on Twitter, however, disagreed, saying the episode was “disturbing,” “just awful,” and “too much.”
Author and screenwriter Caprice Crane wrote, “I hope someone will document at least one girl’s evolution from ‘Toddlers & Tiaras’ to ‘Teen Mom’ to ‘Intervention’ to ‘Hoarders.’”
