Zahra Clare Baker; police think missing 10 year old with cancer may be dead

Zahra Clare Baker is a 10 year old who has battled bone cancer for years. The disease has left her with a prosthetic leg and nearly deaf. The child went missing on October 9, 2010, however, according to the Associated Press, the police are now suspecting a homicide as they have yet to find anyone who’s seen the girl in weeks. Police dogs caught the scent of a dead body on the parents vehicles.

A distant relative, who Zahra spent a lot of time with, suggests that the girl may have been severely abused by her father and her step-mother. She claims the child was locked in her room most of the day and beaten daily. Zahra was also home schooled. Neighbors report that the step mother, Elisa Baker, had a swollen hand and allegedly claimed that she had tried to spank Zahra but accidentally hit her prosthetic leg instead.

The step-mother has been arrested on numerous other charges. Apparently, she’s no stranger to criminal activity.
