A Christian school in Virginia is reportedly kicking out an 8-year-old child because they say that the child, Sunnie Kahle, 8, is gender confused.
According to a report on MS News Now, Timberlake Christian School sent a note home with Sunnie which read in part:
“You’re probably aware that Timberlake Christian School is a religious, Bible-believing institution providing education in a distinctly Christian environment.”
The letter went on to say, “We believe that unless Sunnie as well as her family clearly understand that God has made her female, and her dress and behavior need to follow suit with her God-ordained identity, that TCS is not the best place for her future education.”
Sunnie’s grandparents who identify Sunnie as a girl, say they aren’t waiting for the school to kick her out, they’re proactively withdrawing Sunnie from the school. Sunnie’s grandmother, Carroll Thompson, said that Sunnie cries over not being able to go to school. Thompson says that Sunnie wants to be with her friends.
Thompson asked, “How do you label a child, 8 years old, or discriminate against an 8-year-old child?”
Thompson also said she refused to tell Sunnie that she has to have long hair and wear pink bows in her hair when all she wants to do is “play in the mud and so forth.”
Timberlake Christian School said the problem is greater than Sunnie’s hair and wardrobe. “[T]hings disturbed the classroom environment,” the administrator told MS News Now off camera.
The letter sent home with Sunnie also provided Bible verses which they believe backed up their position.
