Actress Kristen Bell confessed on Wednesday that she feared so disconnected from her baby during her pregnancy, she thought she’d continue to love her pets more than her child.

Bell, 33, who has been a long time, outspoken animal rights activist and vegetarian, says that she admitted to her actor husband, Dax Shepard, 38, that she couldn’t fathom liking her baby as much as she likes her two dogs, Lola, a corgi-show mix and Mr. Shakes, a corgi-Chihuahua mix. Bell shared with Flare Magazine the anxiety she felt while pregnant.

“I was being serious,” Bell told them. “Because I f***ing love my dogs; they are my children.”

Bell said that the fear went away right after she gave birth to daughter, Lincoln, 7-months ago.

Bell explained the disconnect she had with her unborn baby. “It could’ve been a water bottle in my belly, that’s about how connected I felt to her during my pregnancy.”

Lucky for Lincoln, her mom came around with Bell(s) on.

Bell continued, “But within about 24 hours after she came out, my hormones reset, and they reprogrammed my feelings about her.”

Bell also told Flare that she was hoping for a natural, crunchy type of birth experience but abandoned the idea after only one, very strong contraction. Bell said of her wish for a natural pregnancy, “[O]nce we got there [to the hospital], none of that applied.”
