On July 6, 2012, police found 19 children left alone in a home close to Bowling Green. On Tuesday, Jackie Farah was arrested and charged with fourteen counts of criminal abuse and five counts of wanton endangerment by the Warren County Sherriff’s office. According to the police, Farah left 19 children alone in a home that had no air conditioning and filthy from animal feces.
When questioned, Farah admitted that she and Irving “Joe” Smith left home on June 27 to go to Chicago to visit. When a neighbor noticed that the children and the animals were left alone, they called the authorities to report the abandoned children. As a result, the children were removed from the home and treated at the hospital. They were then Farah’s 13 children and their 6 cousins, ranging in ages of 7months and 16 years old, visiting for the summer were placed in the state’s custody.
According to Warren County prosecutor Chris Cohron, Jackie Farah pled guilty to four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment on March 4, 2013. The remaining charges were dropped as part of the condition of her plea deal. It has been recommended that Farah receive an eight year probated sentence as long as she follows the conditions set forth by the Warren County Family Court. The children at this time remain in the custody of the state.
