A Wall, Pa. woman allegedly abandoned her eight-month-old daughter in the woods because she didn’t want to care for her any longer.

Jennifer Cutruzzula, 24, has been arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child after neighbors say they witnessed her walking into the woods with her baby in her arms and reappearing a short time later without the baby.

When the neighbors investigated, they found Cutruzzula’s daughter alone, crawling in puddles, crying and covered in mud with only a onesie on in the rain. The neighbors called police who questioned Cutruzzula who reportedly told the East McKeesport police that she left her daughter in the woods with a bottle because she wanted a “fresh start”.

Under the Pennsylvania Safe Haven law, Allegheny District Attorney Stephen Zappala said that Cutruzzula could have dropped her baby off at any hospital in the county if she no longer wanted to care for her. Zappala also said the state is considering additional charges against Cutruzzula.
