Man alleges Lifetime Fitness trainer molested him as teen

A 22-year-old Naperville, Ill. man has filed a lawsuit against Lifetime Fitness alleging one of their personal trainers groomed and molested him for an extended period of time starting when he was 16-years-old.

The unidentified plaintiff claims that 60-year-0ld Robert Theodore went through an extensive grooming period where he wooed the teen’s parents and and gave him gifts and extra attention. DuPage County prosecutors claims that Theodore had sexual contact with the teen, patiently waiting out his parents permission to train him for track and field and get him alone in the locker room and hot tub, where he molested him.

The plaintiff also claims that if Lifetime Fitness had done a background check, they would have found that Theodore is a convicted pedophile in Arizona.

According to CBS Chicago on Thursday, DuPage County prosecutors allege that Theodore bought the boy expensive electronics and bikes and extended his training to the boy’s home, where he also molested him. The lawsuit claims that Theodore took every opportunity at Lifetime Fitness in Warrenville, Ill. to molest the boy by choosing training spots in very isolated places in the gym.

Theodore has been arrested and given a GPS monitoring band after he was released on bail.

Lifetime Fitness has declined comment citing pending litigation.
