Jessica Ridgeway murder: Teen suspect arrested

Austin Reed Sigg, 17, accused of killing a dismembering Jessica Ridgeway, 10. Mug shot via Westminster Police.

A 17-year-old year old teenage boy has been apprehended for the murder and dismemberment of a 10-year-old Colorado girl, Jessica Ridgeway.

Austin Reed Sigg was arrested late Tuesday night by Westminster Colorado Police.

Jessica Ridgeway disappeared earlier this month, on her way to her elementary school. Police believe Ridgeway only got about a block away before she was abducted, sexually assaulted and dismembered. Her body was found 5 days later by garbage collectors, in a field a few miles from her home. Police cleared Jessica’s parents of any wrong-doing early on in the investigation. FBI agents said the brutal killing was that of an extremely disturbed predator.

Now police have arrested a young man whom they believe was responsible for Jessica’s grisly death.

An adult female jogger was instrumental in finding the suspect as she had reported that a man, between the ages of 18 – 35, tried to abdcut her by covering her mouth with a chemically soaked cloth in on May 28, 2012.

Police said Sigg is a college student at Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, Colorado. Sigg reportedly won second place in a Health Occupation Students of America State Leadership Conference back in March. The contest involved a crime scene investigation.
