California man attacks father and toddler with machete

A California man is behind bars today after police say he attacked a 24-year old man and his 2-year-old daughter on Wednesday with a a machete.

James Norman reportedly went to the victim’s house to collect his belongings after staying with the victim. That’s when Norman apparently got into an argument with the victim and started swinging at him with a machete. The adult victim suffered machete wounds to his head and ear. The victim’s toddler son was reportedly near his father when Norman started attacking him. The boy suffered a machete wound to the leg.

According to ABC News 10, a neighbor, Donaven Tolleson, witnessed the attack went home to get his gun. Norman fled when the neighbor confronted him with his shotgun,  but deputies eventually caught up to Norman and apprehended him.

Both father and son were taken to a nearby hospital where the toddler is undergoing surgery. Both victims are expected to make a full recovery however.

Norman has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, which is a felony.
