A former Illinois high school math teacher from Niles North High School has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor sex charge after encouraging two cheerleaders to play a game of strip poker with him.

DuPage County prosecutors said the 30-year-old teacher, Jeffrey Tackes (of Bensenville, Illinois) admitted to sexual exploitation of a child. He was was sentenced to probation along with 250 hours of community service. He was also the school’s cheerleading coach.

Tackes was arrested following reports from two cheerleaders who said he induced them to play strip poker with him. They said the incident occured at his residence after a party.

The students, ages 16 and 17, said Tackes exposed himself during the game. The two cheerleaders also alleged that they later received inappropriate, sexual text messages from Tackes. He resigned from his job as a math teacher after his arrest.

Prosecutors said that Tackes must register as a sex offender for the next ten years as part of his plea deal.
