A Dallas mother was arrested on charges of child abandonment and child endangerment on Thursday after she allegedly left her 2-year-old son in a hot car while she went in a bar to have margaritas.
According to police, Jessica Christian arrived at Tejano Restaurant in Oak Cliff around noon and left the toddler alone in the car with the engine off and the windows cracked.
Police told Fox Dallas-Fort Worth that a samaritan saw the toddler and called the police. The officers stated that it was 83 degrees when they arrived to the scene and the boy was screaming and needed help.
Fox Dallas-Fort Worth reports that one of the officers was able to reach into the window and open the door. Firefighters treated the boy for dehydration and gave him water. According to the news report, that was when Christian came out of the restaurant.
The police report states that Christian claims she just ran inside to pick up an order. However, the bartender produced a receipt to investigators that showed she had four margaritas in a 30 minute period.
Christian was arrested and the young boy was released to his grandmother, Fox Dallas-Fort Worth reports.
