Texas police say they have found a newborn baby who was abducted from his dying mother Tuesday afternoon and have a suspect in custody

District Attorney Brett Ligon of Montgomery County, Texas, told reporters that 3-day-old Keegan Schuchardt is safe and will soon reunite with his father but did not say where the child was found and who the suspect was.

Keegan’s mother, Kayla Marie Golden, 28, was shot to death earlier today just after leaving a pediatrician’s office with her son in suburban Houston.

Authorities say the incident occurred at around 2:40 p.m., when a car with a man and woman inside pulled up beside Golden in the office parking lot. After an argument, the woman got out of the car and shot Golden multiple times before taking her son.

Investigators told ABC station KTRK in Houston that Golden reached for her son as the car sped away. She died hours later at a nearby hospital.

“I saw a lady fall down here in the parking lot,” witness Tia Collins told NBC station KPRC in Houston. “I saw another lady get out and I saw a guy get out of the car that the lady who shot her was driving and get the baby out of the other lady’s car that was shot and they just got in the car and drove off.”

Investigators said the killer also took Golden’s child seat out of her pickup truck before fleeing.
