Spring has sprung at schools throughout the country. With spring upon us, school children are getting hyped up about spring break–and bracing for report cards.
One Florida middle school student is spending his spring break wearing a sign as a punishment for poor grades.
Michael Bell, Jr.’s parents were not pleased when he received 3 F’s on his most recent report card. His parents, desperately trying to reach their son, are having him wear a sign while standing at a busy intersection during his break to send a message.
According to WSVN Miami-Dade, the front of the sign states, “Hey, I want to be a class clown. Is it wrong?”The back of the sign reads: “I’m in the 7th grade and got 3 F’s. Blow your horn if there’s something wrong with that.”
To ensure his safety, Michael’s parents have been staying with him as well as providing him with food and water.
Michael Bell, Sr. wants to impress upon Michael the importance of good grade’s and making something of one’s self. Bell, Sr. explained his unusual strategy to Local10 Miami: “He has been screwing up in school, behavior and academics and right now I am trying to send a message to him.” He further clarified, “Right now, this is the only thing I have left to try and reach him.”
So, while Michael’s friends are hanging out and having fun during spring break, he will be wearing his sign.
However, Michael does say that he has learned from the experience. He told WSNV, “I’m sorry that it has to get to this point and that when I get back to school, I’m going to do better.”
