In Chicago, Illinois, a 4-year-old boy was found in a Gage Park neighborhood home, apparently beaten to death on his birthday. Chicago police said that they are questioning the mother of the child and her boyfriend.
The child was apparently found unresponsive by relatives who had come to deliver a birthday cake. Police said that officers were called to the scene around 2 p.m. on Friday after receiving a call from a family member.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office identified the four-year-old child as Christopher Valdez. Police said he was unresponsive when police arrived and he had appeared to have suffered blunt force trauma, possibly the result of being punched.
The medical examiner’s office said Christopher was pronounced dead at 3:10 p.m. Friday at Holy Cross Hospital.
Police said that it appeared that the boy may have been dead for several hours before emergency responders found him.
Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala reports that no charges have been filed, as yet.
