On Thursday, Moore released a statement through her publicist, confirming the breakup after weeks of media speculation and rumors of infidelity by Kutcher.  She writes:

“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton,” Moore said in statement from her publicist to “As a woman, a mother and a wife, there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life. This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation.”

Moments after Demi’s statement was released, Kutcher responded via Twitter, “I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi.”

The couple’s relationship appeared to be on the rocks, and were seemingly using Twitter to vent their frustrations. In September, Kutcher tweeted a link to the Public Enemy song “Don’t Believe the Hype” and later,”When you ASSUME to know that which you know nothing of you make an A[**] out of U and ME.”

Moore’s tweets were a little more ambiguous, saying, “remember … you’ve got your own back,” and, “I see through you….” Becoming increasingly straightforward, she tweeted, “When we are offended at any man’s fault, turn to yourself & study your own failings. Then you will forget your anger.”

The famous couple had reportedly been to numerous Kabbalah sessions, but recently began to spend more time apart, to the point of being on opposite coasts. Moore in New York promoting a movie, and Kutcher in L.A. taping “Two and a Half Men”.

“Asking 4 the energy 2 forge bonds with our similarities & find compromise in our differences,” Ashton posted to Twitter. reported that around this time, the couple took a trip to Israel, in an attempt to mend the failing marriage.

According to a source, US Weekly reported that “Ashton’s tweeting [about Penn State] was the last straw.”

“Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail. Love and Light, AK.”
