A 13-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after his foster mom was found dead on Friday evening.
After hearing an altercation next door, Dawn McKenzie’s next door neighbour placed an emergency call to the police. Officers found Ms McKenzie suffering from multiple injuries, and she was rushed to hospital by paramedics. She died a short while later.
Ms McKenzie had given up her job as a nursery nurse to become a full time foster parent.
The 13-year-old boy she was fostering was arrested and charged, and will appear in court later today.
Dawn’s husband Bryan was ‘badly shocked’ by his wife’s death, and the family were described as ‘devastated and numb’.
They released a statement through the police, stating: “Dawn was a loving wife, daughter, sister, niece, aunt and friend who will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her. She was a nursery nurse, nanny and helped mothers and children throughout her working life. The families would like to thank everyone who has helped them at this difficult time and for the messages of sympathy and support which they have received.”
Sky News reported a neighbour from the area describing Dawn as “attractive and also pleasant” and saying the community is shocked, as it is such a law-abiding area.
