About 50 dogs have taken part in the Sixth Annual Loews Coronado Bay Resort Surf Dog Competition in California.

The dogs were kitted out with Hawaiian shirts and sunglasses, and were judged on their confidence, style and the length of time they rode waves. The judging categories were split into dogs weighing over 40kg, and those weighing less. There was also a category for people who hit the waves with their dogs on the same board.

The winning dogs were awarded a feature in Modern Dog magazine, along with a VIP holiday for them and their owners.

The events proceeds were donated to DonorsChoose.org, which helps public teachers find funding for school supplies from private companies and organizations.
