A coffee fix without the caffeine; lipstick news

I love coffee…love it, love it, love it, love it. Now that I am pregnant with my second child, how can I get my coffee fix without actually drinking any of it?

Ah, the smell and taste of a cup of coffee. I love it, too. You just can’t beat a fresh-brewed cup of coffee at the crack of dawn, especially when there are small children around. But I didn’t want to touch it when I was pregnant. I was one of those completely paranoid new mothers that didn’t want to put any caffeine, sushi, or lunch meat into my body if I could help it. I did crave coffee, though. So, what else, I turned to coffee-flavored beauty products! They are out there for all of you who are jonesing for java.

Starting with my lips, which of course were extremely dry when I was pregnant. This probably has to do with the fact that both of my girls buried themselves up in my lungs so I was out of breath and panting like a dog all the time! Thus, I had very dried out lips, so out came my tube of Bare Esentuals Buzz Latte Lip Balm ($8), which I applied at least 20 times a day. It actually has “green coffee extract” in it, even though I don’t know what that is. All I can say is "yum". I probably ate a little bit more of it than I should have, but rest assured, both of my girls turned out fine.

Then, when I truly wanted the all-over coffee experience, I would gracefully slip into the tub (alright, it was more like hoisting myself and trying not to fall over getting in), and pour some of Philopsophy’s Café Au Lait ($16) 3-in-1 shampoo, body wash, and bubble bath into my bath water, turning myself into a human cup of coffee. And finally, for that extra lasting coffee scent you can dab on a little fragrance. Try Crazylibellule’s Poule de Luxe Collection in Vanilla Mocha ($16). This handy solid perfume has notes of dark chocolate, and cocoa bean. Plus, I like the concept of a solid fragrance. For some reason, any time I used a regular spray bottle of perfume, I would sneeze like mad, and the solid fragrance allowed me to smell pretty and not spray snot all over everywhere. Everything can be found at Sephora.com, which is one of my favorite places on Earth. So much so, that if I could set up a little cot right smack in the middle of Nars, some makeup brushes, and Frederic Fekkai hair products in any of their stores, I would be a happy camper. Some of these nifty products are also on the environmentally friendly beauty website www.b-glowing.com, which makes me feel like a better person just by shopping there.

“All The Makeup That’s Fit To Wear” – Beauty News You Can Use

In all-important lipstick news, I was recently in Chicago and had the chance to visit Barney’s NYC, which has an extremely hip cosmetics section including a counter featuring Poppy King’s new lipstick line “Lipstick Queen.” Getting to see all the lush textures and colors in person was almost as enjoyable as the deep dish Chicago-style pizza that I ate every day while I was there. Seriously, four days in a row of pizza! It doesn’t get any better than that! Well, actually Poppy’s lipstick comes fairly close, and imagine my delight when I discovered that she has added a new type of lipstick to her line. It’s called “Oxymoron” and is described as a “Matte Gloss.” How very interesting, right? How is it possible? Isn’t gloss supposed to be sticky and tacky and all around gooey?

Well, since she actually sent me one in advance to try, I will tell you that the formula feels very sheer and light on the lips but does have a soft matte finish. Brilliant. Plus, you can dab a little extra on your cheeks for a complimentary glow. And really who doesn’t love products that multi-task? All moms seem to be able to seamlessly accomplish way more than two things at a time, so why shouldn’t your lipstick? Go to www.lipstickqueen.com to check out the full range of shades. My favorite of the new colors is Honest Politician where, “pink meets brown and just like some politicians… a love child is born.”
