Articles labeled: surrogacy

UK woman is literally a baby factory

Posted January 21st, 2008 by minortopics | via news.bbc.co.uk

Jill Hawkins, a woman from Brighton, England, appears to be going for a record number of surrogate births. She has already been the surrogate mother for seven — count em, SEVEN — babies and is planning the eighth. Unlike some surrogacies, all the children are genetically hers. It would seem like an emotional roller coaster to “give up” so many of your children — how does she do it? The answer is that she simply doesn’t want the baby she’s carrying. She has no desire to have children of her own (er, you know what we mean) and does it all for “[her] couple”, certainly a fascinating mindset that many parents would not be able to comprehend.

The babies conceived by Ms. Hawkins have all been her own genetic children but she says she has never wanted to keep them.

“I am not giving up something I want, which people can’t understand,” she said.

“I am not saying it doesn’t hurt - of course it does - and I do feel very emotional about it and I care very deeply about the baby.”

Her first child, Lucy, is nearly 16. She was followed by Bertie, Jamie, David, Sam, Alexandra and Isobel.

Surrogate mother gets custody

Posted October 24th, 2007 by minortopics | via www.orlandosentinel.com

Not only did this woman sue for custody of a baby whose father donated sperm in order to bring another child home to his family, the surrogate sued for child support! (First response, without knowing the whole story of course, is what a beeotch, man.)

The details on this case are sketchy but one things for sure, nothing good will come out of it.

Last year, after searching the Internet, the Lamitinas hired Eckard to be a surrogate mother. Tom Lamitina provided sperm to Eckard, who became pregnant in August 2006.

A few months later, the two sides had a falling out, stopped talking, and Eckard hired an attorney.

The baby was born May 9, unbeknownst to the Lamitinas, and went home with Eckard. Two weeks later, she sued Tom Lamitina, demanding custody and child support.

Circuit Judge W. Gregg McCaulie ruled that under Florida law, Tom Lamitina is not the child’s father — merely a sperm donor.
