Nelly Vazquez-Salazar woman from Waukegan, Illinois charged with stabbing her 6-year-old daughter to death apparently told police that her daughter attacked her with a knife because she was “possessed”, and that it was self-defense. Vazquez-Salazar later recanted that story, but as to why she did something so horrendous to her child is still unclear.
Christian Alvarez, 25, who lives across the hall from Vazquez-Salazar, said he and his girlfriend were asleep in their apartment at about 4:30 a.m. when they were awakened by loud knocking on their door.
Vazquez-Salazar was screaming and crying hysterically, trying to speak with an emergency dispatcher on her phone but having trouble communicating because of her poor English. She did not appear to have any blood on her, Alvarez said. Vazquez-Salazar at first told Alvarez there was an intruder in her apartment trying to kill her. But when Alvarez asked where her daughter was, her story shifted; she said she had been asleep when Evelyn approached her bed with a knife, threatening “in a different voice” to murder her, Alvarez said the woman told him.
“We were in shock,” he said.

A 6-year-old was found stabbed to death in Waukegan, Illinois, a far northern suburb of Chicago. Police have brought in the mother for questioning as a “person of interest”, but the woman is not under arrest.
Officers responding to a call about 4:40 a.m. in the 4200 block of Hickory Hills Drive found a woman with cuts on her hands and wrists, according to a statement by Waukegan police.
The body of the woman’s daughter, whom authorities identified as Evelyn Vazquez, was found in an adjacent apartment, the statement said. An autopsy conducted Monday afternoon determined that Evelyn died of multiple stab wounds in the neck and upper chest, said Lake County Coroner Richard Keller.

Memphis, Tennessee police responded to a call at a home on Monday night and found a massacre scene — 2 children and 4 adults were found dead, and 3 children were injured. It appears as if the crime had taken place as early as Saturday. One can only imagine the horror of those children having to fight to survive for 2 days amongst all the carnage.
“I heard about six or seven shots [Saturday night],” said Wayne Bolden, a landscaper who said he lives across the street from the home where the killings occurred. “I did not call the police because you always hear shooting in this neighborhood. Now I wish I would have called.”
He said he did not see any movement at the home the next day — the two cars, a van and a passenger car, never moved.
Monday he saw many police cars at the home and heard about the killings, he said.
Memphis Fire Department spokeswoman Melanie Young said firefighters responded to a 911 call at a home at 6:11 p.m. Monday and found the bodies and wounded children.
A 7-year-old boy, a 10-month-old girl and a 4-year-old whose gender wasn’t immediately known were taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center.
