Philadelphia police made a gruesome discovery, and they think it might solve the case of a baby that went missing in Baltimore two years ago.
Several weeks ago, Baltimore police received a tip alleging that an 18-month-old child had been killed in the city and taken elsewhere, police said. A follow-up investigation led police to Philadelphia.
Detectives with the Philadelphia and Baltimore police departments searched a rowhouse in the southern part of the city and found what could be human remains in a suitcase, according to Sterling Clifford, a Baltimore police spokesman.
Clifford said police investigators were waiting for results of an autopsy to determine whether the remains are human and, if so, how the child died.
He said detectives know the identity of the child that was reportedly killed and that they are working to identify the remains that were removed from the South Philadelphia rowhouse.

We have a fourth-grader of our own, and as we sit here trying to maintain our sanity while he’s home for a snow day, we can perhaps understand how dealing with a room full of them day after day can make you snap.
So maybe it’s not such a surprise that Susan Romanyszyn, a fourth-grade teacher in Warminster, Pennsylvania (a suburb of Philadelphia) is being accused by police for issuing threats against Longstreth Elementary School, where she works. They say she left disturbing drawings around the school, as well as a makeshift pipe bomb and nails in the teacher parking lot.
Romanyszyn was charged in connection with a series of threats made against Longstreth that had students, teachers and parents on edge for weeks.
Police said the threats left at the school included references to bombs and quotes such as “Die Today, Kill Em All, You Won’t Catch Me I Have A Gun, You’re So Stupid I Have To Kill You And I Won’t Stop Til You All Die.”
Romanyszyn has been teaching here for several years, sources said. She has been on a leave of absence since late October.

A jar of baby food bought in a Target store in Philadelphia was supposedly found with maggots, claims a family who bought the Gerber food.
That is so disgusting! I certainly hope there wasn’t any jars sold that went unnoticed. Blech!
A Pittsburg family’s complaint that they found worms in jarred baby food has prompted the Target store in San Ramon to empty its shelves of the Gerber baby food flavor.
Officials at Target and Gerber are working together to determine when, where and how jars of Gerber baby food purchased at a San Ramon Target store may have become contaminated with insects, a Target spokesman said.

Dillon Cossey, who was arrested earlier this month for plotting a shoot-up at a local school, yesterday admitted that he indeed have those intentions:
“First off, I would like to apologize for the trouble I caused,” the boy wrote. “I realize now that I was not thinking correctly. I want everyone to know that what was in my room does not change what was in my heart.”
Castor said Cossey described to police being bullied only a few times, but Farrell believes it was more frequent.
“My investigation has really disclosed that he has been the subject of protracted and profound peer abuse his whole life. It drove him from school,” Farrell said.
Authorities do not believe the teen was close to pulling off an attack; he had no ammunition and the boy he approached was the first he had asked for assistance.
Farrell said people who know Cossey don’t think he would have followed through.
“I think it was largely a fantasy that was beginning to cross the line,” Farrell said.
Yeah, well, it seemed to be racing over that line pretty quickly, and when it comes to our children better safe than sorry.

When the Columbine shootings happened, I remember a lot of people asking, “How could their parents not have known?” And many pundits were asking the same thing of the 14-year-old boy in Cleveland who went on a shooting rampage earlier this week. And now another 14-year-old in Philadelphia has been arrested for plotting a shooting and was found to have an arsenal in his room.
Well, apparently in this case the mother *did* know her kid was up to no good, as she allegedly bought three of his weapons:
The mother of a 14-year-old who authorities say had a cache of guns, knives and explosive devices in his bedroom for a possible school attack was charged Friday with buying her son three weapons.
Michele Cossey bought her son a .22-caliber handgun, a .22-caliber rifle and a 9 mm semiautomatic rifle, authorities said. The teenager, who is home schooled, felt bullied and tried to recruit another boy for the possible attack at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, authorities said.
What the hell was she thinking? Those weapons certainly aren’t for hunting… did she even ask what he wanted them for? And if so, what possible bullshit excuse could he have come up with for her to say, “Oh, OK, let’s head on down to Buck’s Guns and Ammo!”
Yikes.
