Infant killed in rollover accident

Posted June 12th, 2008 by minortopics | via kob.com

A baby was killed and two other children were injured when the SUV they were riding in lost control and flipped. The real tragedy is that this death could have been avoided — police investigating the scene stated that the infant was not restrained in a car seat.

Erin Kinnard Thompson of the Bernalillo County Sheriffs Office reports that a SUV rolled over at about 6:30 a.m. Officials initially said that nine people were in the SUV but later revised that to seven. It’s believed that all seven were related and on a trip from Texas to California.

Investigators say that it appears that a 16-year-old girl was behind the wheel of the vehicle and veered from one lane into another, hit the rumble strip, overcorrected and lost control of the SUV.

Animal attacks boy in New Mexico mountains

Posted May 19th, 2008 by minortopics | via ap.google.com

A 5-year-old boy hiking in the mountains of New Mexico with his family was attacked by a “large animal”. While the sheriff claimed it was a mountain lion, others aren’t so sure. Maybe it was Sasquatch?

[Jose Salazar Jr.’s] parents, Jose and Charlotte Salazar, saw the animal emerge from the brush and start dragging away their son, White said. The father tried to jump on the animal’s back, and it let go of the boy and fled.

White said Sunday that the animal was a mountain lion, but Ross Morgan, a spokesman for the state Department of Game and Fish, said dogs trained to track mountain lions picked up no scent in the area Saturday night or Sunday.

The sheriff’s report said the father could not say what type of animal attacked the child because it happened so fast.

3 kids removed from “apocalyptic church” compound

Posted April 30th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

We’re not exactly church going folks, but we gotta admit there’s something intriguing about the high drama of a church that bills itself as “apocalyptic”. Well, that is, right until we read that the head of said church — who claims to be the “Messiah” — may have been diddling some of the younger parishioners.

The two girls and one boy — all under the age of 18 — were taken from the northeastern New Mexico compound following an April 22 investigation, Romaine Serna, spokeswoman for the state Children, Youth and Families Department spokeswoman, said Wednesday.

She said a fourth child, a girl, agreed to be interviewed by the department. Serna said that girl had been at the compound but now lives elsewhere with her parents.

The three children were taken into state custody because of allegations of inappropriate contact between minors and the adult leader of The Lord Our Righteousness Church, Serna said.

Missing snowmobilers and their children are ALIVE

Posted January 7th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.cnn.com

Proving that it’s wise to bow down to the temper tantrums of mother nature, 6 snowmobilers who were reported missing over the last few days have been found alive.

CONEJOS, Colorado (AP) — Six snowmobilers missing in the snowy Colorado mountains were found alive Monday, the Conejos County Sheriff’s Department said.

The snowmobilers and two skiers had been reported missing in heavy snow in the mountains of southern Colorado.

The snowmobilers are two couples from Farmington, New Mexico, and their two children, ages 14 and 13, said Betty Groen, the stepmother of one of the men.
