A man and a woman in Greenwood, Nebraska were arrested for abusing their 4-month-old daughter.
The child had broken ribs, internal injuries, bruising, bite marks and burns over her entire body. The child’s mother, Melanie Powell, 28, of Greenwood, was interviewed and subsequently arrested for child abuse. A warrant was issued for the child’s father, Brian Bowder, 29, of Greenwood, resulting from his fleeing the county upon learning that law enforcement was investigating. He was arrested on Tuesday.
The infant remains in the care of Children’s Hospital and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. Two siblings were removed from Powell’s care and placed in foster care via the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

How can an 11-month-old baby even reach the kitchen counter?
An 11-month-old baby in a burn unit in Lincoln after being pulling a vegetable steamer full of boiling water onto himself.
The accident happened just after noon yesterday. Omaha police say officers were called to the house and found the boy and his father. The father told them the baby had pulled a vegetable steamer full of hot water from a kitchen counter down on top of himself, causing burns to his upper body.

An 8th grader in Omaha, Nebraska was shot in the middle of a school soccer game. Well that’s certainly worth of a red card!
About 100 kids were in and around the middle school about 3:30 p.m. when witnesses saw the boy — a soccer player on the sidelines — bleeding from his face. He had been shot in the mouth and was taken to Creighton University Medical Center; police identified him as 14-year-old Taylor Borgeson.
Tierney said the teen’s injuries suggest he was struck by a discharged round that was falling.
Children were kept in the school as police questioned them. Dozens of parents picked up their children after the lockdown was lifted.
“It’s kind of a hectic scene,” Tierney said.

Congratulations, Lisa Schuchard, of Omaha, Nebraska, you’re our Douche of the Day™! Not only do you seem to wake and bake on a regular basis while taking care of your kid, but you also taught your daughter how to smoke pot. The little detail that clinched your award? Your child is only 4 years old!
Police say a 4-year-old girl demonstrated to them how to smoke marijuana from a joint, a pipe and a bong — and learned the techniques from her mother.
The mother, 25-year-old Lisa Schuchard, is charged with child abuse and could lose her daughter after being accused of teaching and encouraging the girl to smoke.
Her attorney, Douglas County Assistant Public Defender Doug Johnson, said he would not comment because he hadn’t talked to Schuchard in depth.
Authorities say Child Protective Services received a complaint that the 4-year-old and a 2-year-old son of Schuchard were dirty and living in a filthy home that had drug paraphernalia around.
Once again, give a big round of applause to Lisa Schuchard, Minor Topics’ Douche of the Day™!

This story makes me physically ill.
I cannot believe that NOBODY in the apartment building heard this child’s cries. I can’t imagine what it must feel like to starve to death, but I’m quite certain, it isn’t fun. This is unfathomable. Just horrific.
OMAHA, Neb. — Questions from family surround the deaths of an Omaha woman and her young son who were found in their downtown Omaha apartment Monday morning.
Police said it appeared the boy, whose nickname was “Zeke,” was foraging for food after his mother died.
Omaha police said they were called to the Drake Court apartments near 21st and Leavenworth streets at about 11:30 a.m. Monday. They found Janelle Browning, 43, and her 21-month-old son, Ezekiel Berry, dead inside their apartment.

It’s no fun being an illegal alien:
LEXINGTON, Neb. — A 13-year-old student with whom a middle school teacher is accused of fleeing to create a romantic life in the boy’s native Mexico may be required to stay there.
An illegal immigrant while residing in the United States, 13-year-old Fernando Rodriguez may not be able to return to the rural town in the U.S. state of Nebraska where he was an eighth-grade student.
Kelsey Peterson, 25, and Rodriguez were taken into custody without incident after the boy’s relatives told police he had called home asking for money, leading investigators to a shopping mall in the border city of Mexicali on Friday.

Wolves in sheep’s clothing.
Parents of young, tween boys, beware! Just because a teacher looks like the girl next door, they could be a calculating, kidnapping pedophile. What was once thought to be the sociopathy of primarily males, is now proving to reveal that predators can be either male or female, some good looking, some not. One thing is for sure, pedophiles are drawn to professions in which they will have access to children.
Let’s take one of these female teachers and finally have the guts to prosecute them for what they are - CHILD MOLESTERS!
LEXINGTON, Neb. — A school computer is helping central Nebraska authorities unlock the secrets of an alleged relationship between a 13-year-old student and a 25-year-old teacher.
Lexington police are looking for Kelsey Peterson and a male student at Lexington Middle School. Police Chief Paul Schwarz said Peterson’s computer contained love letters exchanged between the teacher and student.
“At this point, we believe we have enough information to believe there was a sexual relationship,” Schwarz said on Wednesday.
