Great news: father who dumped his 9 children expecting twins

Posted July 7th, 2009 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

A deadbeat Dad who abandoned his 9 children between the ages of 1 and 17 last year under Nebraska’s safe haven law is now expecting twins with his girlfriend.

What a loser!

Let’s hope authorities don’t allow him any access to these children and that DCFS closely monitors the situation. And what about the girlfriend? She’s got to be a real brain-iac too, eh?

Both “parents” get MT’s Dumbass Award of the day.

The Nebraska man who abandoned his nine children last year under the state’s Safe Haven law and whose girlfriend is now expecting twins is “clearly troubled” and brings a “black eye” to the state, local lawmakers told FOXNews.com.

Gary Staton, 37, became a single father in February 2007 when his wife, RebelJane, died shortly after giving birth to their ninth child. Unable to handle the burden alone, Staton made national news more than a year later when he dropped off his children — ages 1 to 17 — at a hospital in Omaha.

Toddler severly injured by horse kick to face

Posted March 16th, 2009 by minortopics | via www.ketv.com

A 2-year-old girl in Nebraska suffered severe injuries while attending a horse show. She apparently got too near one of the horses who became startled and kicked its hind leg into her face. Why a toddler was allowed to get so near a back of a horse, we don’t know. The poor girl suffered major injuries, including a shattered nose and eye socket.

“She will wake up, scream in pain even though she’s on morphine. I’m sure her pain is unbearable. I can’t imagine. She didn’t have much of a face left,” said Brenda McGregor, London’s aunt.

Teacher who fled to Mexico with 13-year-old gets 6 years

Posted October 1st, 2008 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

A former Omaha, Nebraska teacher who high tailed it south of the border with her 13-year-old lover has been returned to the United States and sentenced to 6 years in prison. That’s it? Wonder what the sentence would have been if the genders were reversed.

Kelsey Peterson, 26, had pleaded guilty in July to a charge of transporting a minor across state lines to have sex and avoided a similar charge that would have carried a mandatory 10-year minimum sentence.

She will be credited for time served but will not be eligible for parole.

The guilty plea does not mean Peterson is off the hook on Nebraska state charges, which include kidnapping and first-degree sexual assault. Her attorney said he hoped those charges will be dropped.

11 Omaha children abandoned in 24 hours

Posted September 25th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.ketv.com

We’ve heard of people abandoning their pets in these hard economic times, but this is ridiculous.

Two more children have been left at hospitals since a father dropped off his nine children at Creighton University Medical Center Wednesday night.

The state’s Department of Health and Human Services confirmed that an 8-year-old boy was taken to Immanuel Hospital at 5 p.m. and an 11-year-old boy was taken to the same hospital at 8:30 p.m.

One of the boys was placed in foster care and the other is still at the hospital undergoing evaluation.

This brings the total number of children left at Omaha hospitals during the past 24 hours to 11.

Posted June 26th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.ashland-gazette.com

A man and a woman in Greenwood, Nebraska were arrested for abusing their 4-month-old daughter.

The child had broken ribs, internal injuries, bruising, bite marks and burns over her entire body. The child’s mother, Melanie Powell, 28, of Greenwood, was interviewed and subsequently arrested for child abuse. A warrant was issued for the child’s father, Brian Bowder, 29, of Greenwood, resulting from his fleeing the county upon learning that law enforcement was investigating. He was arrested on Tuesday.

The infant remains in the care of Children’s Hospital and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. Two siblings were removed from Powell’s care and placed in foster care via the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

Omaha 8th grader shot in mouth

Posted April 25th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

An 8th grader in Omaha, Nebraska was shot in the middle of a school soccer game. Well that’s certainly worth of a red card!

About 100 kids were in and around the middle school about 3:30 p.m. when witnesses saw the boy — a soccer player on the sidelines — bleeding from his face. He had been shot in the mouth and was taken to Creighton University Medical Center; police identified him as 14-year-old Taylor Borgeson.

Tierney said the teen’s injuries suggest he was struck by a discharged round that was falling.

Children were kept in the school as police questioned them. Dozens of parents picked up their children after the lockdown was lifted.

“It’s kind of a hectic scene,” Tierney said.

“I learned it from you, mom!”

Posted February 24th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

Congratulations, Lisa Schuchard, of Omaha, Nebraska, you’re our Douche of the Day™! Not only do you seem to wake and bake on a regular basis while taking care of your kid, but you also taught your daughter how to smoke pot. The little detail that clinched your award? Your child is only 4 years old!

Police say a 4-year-old girl demonstrated to them how to smoke marijuana from a joint, a pipe and a bong — and learned the techniques from her mother.

The mother, 25-year-old Lisa Schuchard, is charged with child abuse and could lose her daughter after being accused of teaching and encouraging the girl to smoke.

Her attorney, Douglas County Assistant Public Defender Doug Johnson, said he would not comment because he hadn’t talked to Schuchard in depth.

Authorities say Child Protective Services received a complaint that the 4-year-old and a 2-year-old son of Schuchard were dirty and living in a filthy home that had drug paraphernalia around.

Once again, give a big round of applause to Lisa Schuchard, Minor Topics’ Douche of the Day™!

Toddler starves to death after mother dies

Posted January 10th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.ketv.com

This story makes me physically ill.

I cannot believe that NOBODY in the apartment building heard this child’s cries. I can’t imagine what it must feel like to starve to death, but I’m quite certain, it isn’t fun. This is unfathomable. Just horrific.

OMAHA, Neb. — Questions from family surround the deaths of an Omaha woman and her young son who were found in their downtown Omaha apartment Monday morning.

Police said it appeared the boy, whose nickname was “Zeke,” was foraging for food after his mother died.

Omaha police said they were called to the Drake Court apartments near 21st and Leavenworth streets at about 11:30 a.m. Monday. They found Janelle Browning, 43, and her 21-month-old son, Ezekiel Berry, dead inside their apartment.

Doh - 13 year old that fled to Mexico with teacher is illegal alien

Posted November 4th, 2007 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

It’s no fun being an illegal alien:

LEXINGTON, Neb. — A 13-year-old student with whom a middle school teacher is accused of fleeing to create a romantic life in the boy’s native Mexico may be required to stay there.

An illegal immigrant while residing in the United States, 13-year-old Fernando Rodriguez may not be able to return to the rural town in the U.S. state of Nebraska where he was an eighth-grade student.

Kelsey Peterson, 25, and Rodriguez were taken into custody without incident after the boy’s relatives told police he had called home asking for money, leading investigators to a shopping mall in the border city of Mexicali on Friday.

Teacher runs off with 13 year old boy

Posted November 1st, 2007 by minortopics | via www.ketv.com

Wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Parents of young, tween boys, beware! Just because a teacher looks like the girl next door, they could be a calculating, kidnapping pedophile. What was once thought to be the sociopathy of primarily males, is now proving to reveal that predators can be either male or female, some good looking, some not. One thing is for sure, pedophiles are drawn to professions in which they will have access to children.

Let’s take one of these female teachers and finally have the guts to prosecute them for what they are - CHILD MOLESTERS!

LEXINGTON, Neb. — A school computer is helping central Nebraska authorities unlock the secrets of an alleged relationship between a 13-year-old student and a 25-year-old teacher.

Lexington police are looking for Kelsey Peterson and a male student at Lexington Middle School. Police Chief Paul Schwarz said Peterson’s computer contained love letters exchanged between the teacher and student.

“At this point, we believe we have enough information to believe there was a sexual relationship,” Schwarz said on Wednesday.
