Study highlights increased number of children swallowing magnets

A recent study published by U.K. researchers in The Lancet highlights the increased occurrence of children swallowing magnets. The study followed two cases of children swallowing magnets. Toddler swallows 37 magnets, doctors perform emergency surgery

Payton Bushnell, age-3, of Portland, Oregon, had to undergo emergency surgery after an X-ray revealed the tot had swallowed 37 Rare Earth Buckyball magnets. Buckyball magnets are desk toys marketed towards adults as a fidgeting gadget for people to relieve stress or take a break to make something fun and creative.
