Toddler falls into cooking pot

Posted November 20th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.indystar.com

If this isn’t a freak accident, we don’t know what is.

A 2-year-old boy was badly burned Tuesday night after falling face-first into a hot three-gallon pot of water or food.

The incident occurred about 7 p.m. near 16th Street and Arlington Avenue on the city’s Eastside while one family was cooking dinner for another, said Sgt. Paul Thompson, a spokesman for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Thompson said that two adults were carrying the pot in a milk crate. The boy ran up behind the adults and fell into the pot face first, with his hands and arms following, Thompson said.

Boy burned after setting fire to deer

Posted July 2nd, 2008 by minortopics | via www.chicagotribune.com

Uh, you know what, we’ll just let the story speak for itself.

Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s deputies say the boy is being treated at an Indianapolis hospital for burns on his chest. Officials did not release his name or his condition.

Detective Greg Haltom says the boy and his brother found a small deer carcass in a rural area near Lafayette Tuesday and attempted to burn it in a barrel. Gasoline or some other flammable substance got on the boy’s T-shirt and it caught fire.

Man sentenced to 32 years for child molestation

Posted May 22nd, 2008 by minortopics | via www.indystar.com

A 20-year-old who broke into a house into an Indiana house and sexually assaulted a 5-year-old girl has been sentenced to 32 years in prison. We think there should be an extra zero at the end, but we’ll take it over a slap on the wrist that some of these sickos receive.

The girl has needed counseling, and her parents learned that she contracted a sexually transmitted disease from Jesus Alberto Valenzuela, Deputy Prosecutor Gillian DePrez said during a sentencing hearing.

A Marion Superior Court judge sentenced Valenzuela to 32 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to burglary and child molesting charges stemming from the early morning break-in Aug. 24.

Valenzuela, 20, nodded as an interpreter translated Senior Judge Charles Wiles’ questions before accepting his plea.

The girl’s parents attended but didn’t testify. The family has moved from the city.

Bank robbers shoot pregnant teller in stomach

Posted April 22nd, 2008 by minortopics | via www.theindychannel.com

A 5 month pregnant bank teller was shot in the abdomen by a bank robber for no reason other than pure evil.

Police are searching for two teenage persons of interest who may have valuable information on the suspects.

According to Indianapolis Metro police Lt. Jeff Duhamell, the victim, who is five months pregnant with twins, was conscious but in serious condition when she was taken from the scene to Methodist Hospital to undergo surgery. Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard told 6News that the bullet did not strike the unborn children.

One customer and three employees were inside the bank at the time of the shooting, authorities said. None of them resisted during the robbery, 6News’ Jack Rinehart reported.
“He ordered one of the customers down on the floor. The suspect then jumped over the counter and … shot a female teller,” Duhamell said.

Rabid tech at hospital bites toddler

Posted September 27th, 2007 by minortopics | via www.theindychannel.com

Hopefully this lab tech will never work with children again. If I were the parents, I might be inclined to take her needle and put it in her eye:

INDIANAPOLIS — A former lab technician admitted to investigators she bit an autistic boy during a blood test, saying the 3-year-old had bitten her first, Indianapolis police said Wednesday.

The county prosecutor’s office will determine whether charges will be filed against the technician, who was fired after Friday’s incident at St. Vincent Hospital, 6News’ Rafael Sanchez reported.
