SWAT team shoots father to rescue daughter
Posted August 11th, 2008 by minortopics | via ap.google.comA SWAT team in Lynwood, California shot a man to death trying to rescue his 2-year-old daughter, who he had held hostage for several hours.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Byron Ward said that deputies responding to a call found the [girl’s wounded mother] outside the house.
Gerrardo Arvallo, 32, was shot at about 11:30 p.m., authorities said.
“He refused to surrender or release his daughter, while making threats to kill himself,” Deputy Ed Ward said.
Deputies believed the child was in imminent danger and fired a single shot that killed Arvallo when he was not near the child, authorities said.
