“I’ll buy that for a dollar!”

Although the parents are claiming it was just a joke, authorities aren’t laughing…

BERLIN — Authorities in southern Germany have taken custody of a 7-month-old boy after his parents posted an ad on eBay offering to sell him for one euro, or about $1.60.

Police spokesman Peter Hieber says the baby was placed in the care of youth services in the southwestern Allgaeu region.

German police have arrested a woman when three infants were found in a basement freezer. The woman is apparently the mother of the three babies. WTF?

Police made the grisly find Sunday night in the town of Wenden, near Olpe, in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia, after receiving a tip from one of the woman’s three grown children, officials said.

The three infants are believed to have been born alive, said Johannes Daheim, spokesman for prosecutors investigating the case. Authorities were awaiting autopsy results to determine for sure how they died, he said.

The 44-year-old woman, who name was not released, was taken into custody on suspicion that she killed the children.

Suspected of having a mental illness (no duh!), a 31 year old mother in Germany is suspected of killing all 5 of her young children, ranging from previously reported infant deaths to the new slayings which included the rest of her children, ages 3 - 9.

Since we hear about this so much, I have to wonder, is it safe to leave children with mothers who are mentally ill??? It’s not fair to the children to take a gamble. Mentally ill mothers must be closely monitored and not left alone with their children. I don’t know how to monitor that, but we owe it to these children to make some safety protocols on their behalf.

(CNN) — Police in Darry in northern Germany found the bodies of five children Wednesday, and a spokesman said their 31-year-old mother is the prime suspect in the slayings.

The children were between 3 and 9 years old. Police said the mother appears to suffer from a mental illness, and was taken to a mental health facility.
