Boy blinded by asthma attack recovering

Posted June 16th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

A boy who lost his sight and also the ability to walk and talk after an asthma attack cut off oxygen to his brain is slowly recovering.

Dante [Hall] was stricken last June and remained unconscious for a month. When he regained consciousness, he suffered from memory loss, blindness, and couldn’t walk or talk.

He went home in August and, with help from physical therapists, learned to walk again.

“He couldn’t talk when he came home from the hospital,” his mother said, but now “he won’t stop.”

Jenika Hall said doctors at Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, where Dante was treated, visited in December and were amazed at his progress.

Children abandoned in car

Posted April 17th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.dallasnews.com

OK, we realize there were perhaps extenuating circumstances, but here’s our parenting tip of the day: it’s usually not a good idea to leave your children alone in a car by the side of the road.

An infant and a 1-year-old were left alone in a car Wednesday morning when their mother went to get gas, Fort Worth police said.

Latesha Cummings, 20, of Fort Worth, left her children in the car around 8 a.m. when she ran out of gas in the 1400 block of Bridgewood Drive, police said.

Witnesses called police who arrived to find the 1-month old strapped in a car seat and the toddler standing on the front seat playing with the steering wheel, Fort Worth police Lt. Paul Henderson said.

FORT WORTH — No criminal charges will be sought against family members of a 2-year-old girl who was left at a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Police picked up the child who called herself Mimi on Saturday night after people at the restaurant realized that no adult was with her, said Lt. Dan Draper. The family of the girl did not report her missing until seeing her picture in news media reports two days later, authorities said.

Bible reading mom gets kicked off the bus

Posted January 1st, 2008 by minortopics | via www.myfoxdfw.com

I had to do a double take when I read this, did this happen in the United States of America or Afganistan???

Lutz said she was sitting in the back of the bus, but wasn’t being disruptive. She claimed she was stunned when the bus driver interrupted her reading.

“She asked me to stop reading my Bible,” Lutz told FOX 4. “I said, ‘No, I’m reading the Bible, I’m teaching the kids, I’m going to continue.’ And I continued.”

Lutz said the next thing she knew, the bus had pulled over and she was being escorted into a supervisor’s van, which then took her and her family to church.

Toddler Falls From Vehicle, Struck By Passing Car

Posted September 18th, 2007 by minortopics | via www.nbc5i.com

I always lock the car doors when my children are with me because I am paranoid (are you seeing a pattern here?) of my kids falling out.

I have an uncle who fell out of a moving car when he was a young child. Lucky for him, he rolled along, brushed himself off and regained his all his hillbilly glory, with quite a story to tell for the rest of his life, but he also didn’t get hit by another car…

FORT WORTH, Texas — Police in North Richland Hills are investigating an accident in which a child fell out of a moving car and was hit by another vehicle.

The 2-year-old child was in the van and somehow managed to get out of his seat and open the door, officials said.
