Casey Anthony blows immunity chance

Posted September 2nd, 2008 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

Florida authorities had given Casey Anthony until 9:00 a.m. this morning to cooperate with them regarding the disappearance of her daughter Caylee in exchange for limited immunity, but Casey declined the offer.

Padilla said the focus is still on finding Caylee — alive or dead — a discovery that would significantly aid in the investigation.

“Obviously that would clear up a lot of questions that we have,” Padilla told FOXNews.com.

He declined to comment on which of the various theories, if any, had become the most prominent in the investigation. Detectives have been trying to determine whether Caylee died accidentally, was killed or was kidnapped, as her mother has claimed. Police have expressed serious doubts about the abduction story.

“The key is with the mother, with Casey,” Padilla said. “If there is a cover-up, it would be her — if there is. Right now she continues to not provide any information that is helpful to us.”

Casey Anthony charged with felony

Posted August 5th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

Whether or not Casey Anthony killed her own baby has yet to be proven, but surely her behavior is not one of a caring or concerned mother. Casey Anthony seems to only care about herself and all evidence so far would suggest that Casey Anthony only cares about herself and getting away with a tragic ending to an innocent girls life. It just didn’t have to be this way. Was this mother so jealous of the love and attention of a little toddler that she just couldn’t be bothered anymore? Such a sad situation.

Meanwhile, DNA tests have come back but have not been released to the public. Something strange is a brewin’ and MT has the feeling the Florida investigators know more than what has been released, hence the formal charges. They just need time to put a case together. Let’s pray that they do.

Casey Marie Anthony, 22, was charged with one felony and one misdemeanor offense, in addition to the child neglect charge she already faced. She will be arraigned on the criminal charges.

Also Tuesday, test results from DNA samples taken from a car driven by Anthony came in and were turned over to investigators.

The evidence was gathered from the trunk of a vehicle that Anthony was using when her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Marie Anthony vanished in mid-June.

10 year old arrested for lunch utensils

Posted December 18th, 2007 by minortopics | via www.wftv.com

One minute you’re cutting a steak, the next, it lands you with felony charges.

C’mon!!! People!!!!

Have we lost all common sense?

(Again, WTF is with Florida?)

I can see taking away a knife, because you shouldn’t have a knife at school, but charges a CHILD with a felony for cutting her steak is ridiculous.

OCALA, Fla. — A 10-year old Ocala girl brought her lunch to school and a small kitchen knife to cut it. She now faces a felony charge after being arrested. The school and the sheriff’s office disagree on the reason for the arrest.

School officials say the 5th grader was brown-bagging it. She brought a piece of steak for her lunch, but she also brought a steak knife. That’s when deputies were called.

It happened in the cafeteria at Sunrise Elementary School. The 10-year-old used the knife to cut the meat.

Cheating may turn into a felony

Posted September 24th, 2007 by minortopics | via www.freep.com

If schools are looking to send a message to students that cheat or steal, they may be successful:

The parents of nine high school students accused of breaking into Hanover High School in New Hampshire are furious that school officials turned the case over to local police. The police prosecutor brought criminal charges against the students who allegedly broke into a teacher’s filing cabinet and stole exams. Their parents are now being told that if they choose to take the case to trial, misdemeanor charges could be raised to felonies.

What is truly offensive is the authors willingness to hang these kids out to dry as a lesson to be learned for the entire world:

As the mother of two teenagers, I agree. But it is also scary to hear a parent equate an allegation of breaking and entering as “one little mistake.” This is, at minimum, a very big mistake.

Today, cheating is routinely dismissed as no big deal. A stadium filled with New England Patriots fans sent that message to Coach Bill Belichick after he was fined $500,000 for illegally filming the signals of New York Jets coaches in the season opener.

So, according the author, we should ruin the lives of stupid teenagers because professional athletes cheat? I think the author’s comparison is midguided. Kids do stupid things. Are teenagers supposed to be sacrificed for the good of moral servitude?

I’m not suggesting that these punk teens get away with what they did. Stealing is a crime. They should face consequences, but if they have no prior convictions, they should be scared straight but not ruined with prison terms.

People get away with murder in this country, literally, they get away with murder and child abuse and yet we want to ruin these kids lives for being really, really stupid. Well, I’ve got news for you, teenagers ARE stupid. They do really stupid things. They should be taught a lesson, not ruined. The weight of the worlds wrong doings should not lie on their shoulders. Let’s do the right thing here, but not make these kids scapegoats. This isn’t the land of the Taliban after all. The punishment should fit the crime.
