Mother indicted for dropping baby from balcony — twice

Posted February 13th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.dallasnews.com

The first time you drop your baby from a second story balcony, it might be considered an accident. But do it again, and yeah, you’re probably going to be hit up with a capital murder charge:

Padmaja Enjeti was indicted by a Collin County grand jury last week. Police said she walked upstairs with her 22-month-old daughter last November and dropped her to the first floor of their Plano house. While the 38-year-old woman was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher, she dropped her daughter a second time, and then came back to the phone and admitted doing it, according to the recording.

Despite initial reports that the child had a fractured skull, she did not suffer any serious injuries from the fall and is in her father’s care. Mrs. Enjeti had been suffering from schizophrenia since the birth of her daughter, said Howard Shapiro, one of her attorneys.

Toddler dies from freak accident in his backyard

Posted October 8th, 2007 by minortopics | via www.dallasnews.com

While freak accidents do happen, I’m not sure if this mother will ever be able to forgive herself, having taken her eye off her baby for just long enough for him to get into a fatal situation. Who would think that a soccer net in one’s background could be a death trap for a toddler?:

A 21-month-old Collin County boy hospitalized last week after getting tangled in a backyard soccer net has died, officials said.
