Toy company refuses to pull lead tainted doll

Posted January 22nd, 2008 by minortopics | via www.chicagotribune.com

Ty, Inc., famous as the maker of the huge hit Beanie Babies, is refusing to pull its doll, Jammin’ Jenna, from shelves despite being notified that the doll contains high amounts of lead. They’ve stopped selling new ones, but as for the ones still sitting in stores, you’re SOL. Why? Nobody will say.

Despite its concern with Party City, the attorney general’s office said it is most troubled with Ty Inc. over its Jammin’ Jenna, one of several dolls in the Ty Girlz product line.

“They sell very popular products that children love. It would be our expectation that they would step up and do what they can to make sure their products don’t contain lead,” said Cara Smith, deputy chief of staff to Illinois Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan.

Scott Wehrs, Ty’s chief operating officer, declined to comment for this article.

Last fall, the Tribune tested the red vinyl shoes on three Jammin’ Jenna dolls, and all three exceeded Illinois lead limits. (The newspaper also tested several other dolls in the Ty Girlz line, but those showed no detectable amounts of lead.)

8 month old baby weighs over 40 lbs

Posted December 6th, 2007 by minortopics | via www.dailymail.co.uk

The irony is in the comments of the cited source, when a person complains about how much junk food this baby must be consuming, when in actuality, he is being breastfed — 20 times a day!!!

An eight-month-old baby boy in Jilin, Northeast China has tipped the scales at over three stone.

Weighing 18.8 kg (41 pounds) and measuring 78 centimeters in height, he was born with a normal birth weight of 3.3 kg (7 pounds 4 oz).

Chinese girl forced to swim with legs and hands bound

Posted October 4th, 2007 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

And I thought Tiger Woods’ father was a hard-ass…

BEIJING — A father tied his 10-year-old daughter’s hands and feet and watched her swim in a chilly southern China river for three hours in a task he said Thursday would help the girl achieve her dream of swimming across the English Channel.

Huang Li swam more than a mile in the Xiang River on Tuesday, traveling with the current, her father said. The girl swam by moving like a dolphin and would sometimes paddle with her bound hands.
