The father of Heather D’Aoust, the 14-year-old who is accused murdering her mother with a hammer, said at a hearing that she asked him to kill her in the moments after the attack.

[James] D’Aoust said she then told him, “I killed Mom.”

“I said: ‘No, you didn’t. You can’t have killed Mom,’ ” D’Aoust testified.

The girl repeated it and then added, “I want you to kill me,” her father said.

His testimony in San Diego Superior Court came on the first day of a preliminary hearing, during which prosecutors presented evidence they believe supports their case against 15-year-old Heather Marie D’Aoust.

At the end of the hearing, Judge Michael Wellington will be asked to decide whether prosecutors presented enough evidence for the case to go to trial. The hearing is expected to resume today.

Becky D’Aoust, the mother whose teen was charged with attacking her with a hammer has died from her injuries.

The death has shaken neighbors and brought tears to the eyes of friends close to the D’Aoust family.

“It’s horrible what has happened to this family,” said neighbor Lori Erlenbach. “They were a good, close family. That’s all that needs to be said right now.”

Neighbor Arthur Moreau, who earlier said he would be acting as the D’Aoust family spokesman, hung up on a reporter yesterday when asked to talk about the D’Aousts.

Officers were called to the home on Canyon Lake Drive near Pinetree Drive just before 9 a.m. and found Becky D’Aoust on the kitchen floor with a serious head injury.

A 14-year-old girl in San Diego is being charged with attacking her mother with a hammer. The woman, being identified as Becky D’Aoust, sustained head injuries that doctors are predicting will be fatal.

The identity of the girl was not made public. She was taken at police headquarters on suspicion of assault and, if her mother dies, she will be moved to juvenile hall on suspicion of murder, said Rooney.

The woman’s other daughter and her husband were sleeping in the house when a loud scream woke them up. Police arrived around 9 a.m. to find the 56-year-old mother in the kitchen with head injuries.

The woman was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego.
