Police have arrested a man who they say tried to kidnap a baby that he saw through an open door.
Police arrested Stanley Allen Tomlin, 38, of Bakersfield, Tuesday on suspicion of kidnapping an infant from her central Bakersfield home, close to where a little girl was nearly abducted over the weekend.
At about 2 p.m., the mother went to the bathroom and left her child on the floor of her home in the 500 block of K Street, according to Sgt. Greg Terry with the Bakersfield Police Department. Her door was wide open.
While in the bathroom, the mother heard noises and went to her living room. She found a suspect holding her baby and a diaper bag.

A 10-year-old in California decided to tell the police all about his mom’s To Live and Die in L.A. remake. (Are we the only one that remembers that movie? God, we’re old.)
On June 25, Jessie Reed’s son told a deputy that his mother used a computer to erase faces on identification cards and make fake money in her home, according to a search warrant. The boy does not live with his mother who resides in the 400 block of Crawford Street.
The son took copies of the money and gave them to a deputy, the search warrant said. He said Reed also has a machine that can identify if a driver’s license is legitimate.

Police are still investigating why a woman veered her car off the road, striking a family walking down the sidewalk. An infant was killed, and a father and his other two children were injured.
On Saturday police said Juan Villanueva was walking down Wilson Street with his infant in his arms when a car veered off the road striking him and his three children.
The infant baby Christopher later died at the hospital.
Andreina Villanueva said the pain is still very real and she can’t believe her baby brother is gone.
Andreina said, “He went to heaven because the car hit us, he didn’t suffer, I really loved him and I really miss him.”
Police said the driver of the car that caused the crash was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Zane Newton, a 9-year-old boy from Bakersfield, California, was found dead under a pile of dirt. Newton had previously been reported as kidnapped, causing a 2 state Amber Alert to be issued, but it turned out the friend Newton was with at the time of his death was scared and made up the whole story:
The body of Zane Newton was found “completely covered” in dirt in a field hours after the reported kidnapping. Police said it appears Newton fell into a hole and was buried when it collapsed around him.
“It appears it was a tragic accident,” police Sgt. Greg Terry told a news conference.
Newton was reported abducted while playing outside with a boy, who told police that a masked man pulled up in a black car and opened fire on them. The boy said Newton was possibly struck before being taken by the man, who drove off.
Terry said there was no evidence that a shooting and kidnapping occurred.
“It appears that the kidnapping and shooting was fabricated,” the sergeant said. He said investigators were questioning the boy, whose name was not released.
