Dad leaves kid in hot car, loses custody

Posted June 9th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.wftv.com

You have to wonder how a father that would leave an 18-month-old locked in a hot car would get custody of his four kids to begin with. The outside temperature on the day this allegedly took place was nearly 100 degrees.

Cosimo Capitiano offered no explanation to the judge Monday about why he left his baby in a hot car Sunday, but his estranged wife’s attorney said he shouldn’t have had custody of the children to begin with.

The attorney representing the children’s mother, Aurelius Capitiano, said the father lied that she was keeping them in an unsafe home in south Florida so that he could get custody of them and avoid having to pay child support. Until he did that, the children had been with their mother. The judge’s decision Monday means all four children are going home with their mother.

Kathy Fishbough just happened to park her car at the Chuck E. Cheese parking lot next to Capitanio’s vehicle. She quickly realized the toddler was locked inside the car.

“All windows were up. The car wasn’t on. No keys in ignition. I was like, ‘You’ve gotta be kidding me,’” she said.

Mom who left infant in car skates

Posted May 16th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.thedailyitemoflynn.com

A mother who left her 2-month-old alone in the car outside Babies ‘R Us (hold up — isn’t that somewhere you actually might want to bring a baby??) is not going to be charged with a crime.

Shortly after 11 a.m., police were called to the Route 114 store after another customer noticed the baby was inside the car alone with the doors locked, according to police.

After rescuers forced entry into the car and retrieved the infant, the officer grabbed the car’s registration and went inside Babies-R-Us to look for the mother.

Police say she was visibly upset when they found her.

“She said she forgot she had the child with her,” Bonaiuto said.

She’s lucky being a dumbass isn’t a crime.

Another baby forgotten in the backseat of a car

Posted October 31st, 2007 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

A mother, working at Hooters in Pheonix, Arizona, allegedly forgot her toddler in the back seat of her car when she went to work. She forgot to drop her baby off at daycare and returned to her car where she discovered her dead son.

This happens so often and why??? Why are parents forgetting about their most precious cargo? Why are daily distractions enough to forget about your own baby? Why is it so common? Could this happen to you??

PHOENIX — A 17-month-old boy left unattended inside a hot car for at least seven hours in a north Phoenix Hooters restaurant parking lot was found dead Tuesday afternoon.

FOX 10 Phoenix reports the baby’s mother had planned to drop the child off at childcare before heading to work at a restaurant near Bell Road and Interstate 17.

Instead, authorities say the mother went to work with the child still inside the car.
