In a shocking twist to, uh, no one, cherub faced pre-pubescent boy David Archuleta has signed a recording contract. In case you do silly things like “read books” instead of watching television, Archuleta was the runner up on this season’s American Idol.
It was announced today that American Idol sensation David Archuleta has signed to 19 Recordings/Jive Records. Archuleta is currently gearing up for the upcoming American Idol tour which kicks off on July 1st in Glendale, AZ. The 17-year old is expected to release his debut album later this year.
“Signing a record contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records is truly a dream come true,” states Archuleta. “Being a fan of American Idol since season one and admiring the alumni, I am honored and humbled to be a part of that group. I’m really excited to start working on everything.”

Against the American Idol’s producers request to eliminate a line from his “Stand by Me” song that would cost them further royalties, David Archuleta’s father told him to leave in the line from Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls”. This pushed the producers over the edge as rumors of the father’s stage presence paints a picture of a domineering and controlling stage parent. MT wonders what kind of life David Archuleta’s leads off-stage.
LOS ANGELES, California (AP) — Backstage meddling has caught up “American Idol” favorite David Archuleta’s dad, who’s been banned from rehearsals, a person working for the TV talent contest said Friday.
Jeff Archuleta was told this week by producers that he can no longer join his 17-year-old son David as he prepares for the show, the person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press. The person wasn’t authorized to comment publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity.
