A 5-year-old boy riding his bike with his mother tried to cross rail tracks and was struck by a train he didn’t see.
The crossing gates were down at the time, but the boy may have thought it was safe to cross because a southbound train had passed the crossing moments before the northbound train arrived, said Pesaturo.
Garbarino’s death is believed to have been accidental, but state and transit police were still investigating last night. The boy’s family could not be reached for comment.

Cody Porter, a fifth grader in Everett, Washington, suffered a tragic accident while playing with his friends in a backyard sandbox. They were burying Porter in the sand when they realized he was not breathing so they dug him out and ran for help.
Cody’s half-brother, 30-year-old Joshua Quantrille, said the boy was playing with Quantrille’s three sons and other children on Saturday in the back yard of a home belonging to a family friend, according to an Associated Press report.
Quantrille said his children told him Cody came up with the idea that they should bury him, head first, in the sand.
Quantrille said the children came up with the idea from a cartoon they watch on television, the Associated Press reported.
Quantrille also said Cody was buried about from his head to his chest. At some point, he began thrashing around, but the children apparently thought he was playing. They then dug him out and called for help.

Poor little baby…when accidents happen, it can create a domino effect. For this little 3 year old, it looks as if she’ll recover from her 3 accident trauma.
A 3-year-old girl in Mesa, Ariz., escaped with several serious wounds after a trifecta of unfortunate accidents, MyFoxPhoenix.com reported Tuesday.
The girl was playing in her backyard Monday and was somehow able to climb to the top of a cinderblock fence, when she fell off the wall and landed on a neighbor’s cactus plant, MyFoxPhoenix.com reported. She was subjected to further bad luck when the neighbor’s two dogs bit her and dragged her across the yard.
