A 9-year-old boy found a loaded Glock 26  9-mm handgun inside a bathroom stall on Sunday, prompting the boy to tell his dad and alert authorities.

Zane Noland was at a theater in Tampa, Florida, to see a movie with his dad on Father’s Day when Zane found the gun. Zane immediately notified his father, an ex-Marine who currently owns a conceal and carry weapon permit.

The boy’s father, Wesley Noland, said he went inside the bathroom stall and saw the weapon on top of the toilet paper dispenser. Mr. Noland was thankful he was able to secure the gun before a small child got a hold of it and harmed him or herself or someone else.

Noland said, “That the gun could have been picked up by a child, or it could have been picked up by a convicted felon or a rowdy group of teenagers or something like that. But in any case, it could have been used in a crime or accidentally discharged and it could have killed somebody in the theater, worst of all a kid.”

Tampa Police say they are trying to trace the gun back to its owner. Police aren’t sure if the gun  properly registered and legal at this time, speculating that the owner may have left it unintentionally or if the gun was stolen. Either way, police say the person who left it there could be charged with a crime even if it was left there by accident.

Kardashian and West are officially mommy and daddy now!  According to E! Online, Kardashian has given birth to the couple’s first child, a baby girl. Kim reportedly began having contractions on Friday night, and transitioned into full labor on Saturday morning. The newest Kardashian was born five weeks early, making her arrival an unexpected but delightful surprise for her parents!

Kardashian delivered at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, with West reportedly at her side the entire time, even cancelling his appearance at his own record release party. It is being reported that both mom and baby are in good health at the moment, but given the little one’s early arrival, she is in an incubator.

Boy enters guilty plea in shooting death of his mother when he was 10. Photo via sxcphoto.com.

A 13-year-old Ohio boy has confessed to shooting and killing his mother three years ago, when he was just 10-years-old. The boy entered the equivalent of a guilty plea on Monday after appearing in juvenile court.

According to WLWT, the boy claims he killed his mother because they were arguing over chores. The boy’s mother wanted him to carry in some firewood and he resisted. The boy said they fought about it and he was allegedly so angry, he fatally shot her.

The boy’s attorney, Andy Hyde, claims the boy lived in an abusive environment and was called upon to take on responsibilities far beyond his age. The attorney suggested that because his mother constantly screamed at him and was emotionally abusive, the boy just snapped.

The plea deal allows the judge to sentence the boy to a juvenile jail until he’s 21, but gives the judge discretion to sentence the boy to a residential facility instead. The boy was previously declared unfit to stand trial but was cleared for competency earlier this year.

The boy has received counseling, but Hyde says he’s still unable to talk bout the shooting.

A Highland Park, Illinois, teen was charged with five counts of misdemeanor battery after a student suffered a reaction from pasta he consumed from the high school school cafeteria.

The 17-year-old prankster’s name has been withheld because he is being charged as a minor.

The prankster reportedly admitted to police this week that he spiked the pasta sauce with a highly potent hot sauce called “Da Bomb.” The bottle is featured on the manufacturers website with a “caution” label and tagline that reads “beyond insanity.” It also comes with a warning to keep out of reach of children. The company’s hottest sauce “Final Answer” warns, “DO NOT eat this sauce straight out the jar! You will die.”

After several of the prankster’s fellow Highland Park High School classmates ate a bite of the pasta, they reported adverse symptoms. Three cafeteria employees tried the pasta and experienced respiratory changes and skin rashes according to CBS Chicago. All those effected have fully recovered however and did not sustain any serious harm.

The school did call police and the prankster was charged. The school said they will install security cameras in the cafeteria to ensure proper safety going forward.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, former “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” actress and mom to two young children says she wants to educate parents on the importance of vaccines, particularly the pertussis vaccine, which protects children against whooping cough.

Gellar, 36, has been married to actor Freddie Prinze, Jr. since 2002. Together, they have a daughter, Charlotte Grace Prinze, 3, and son Rocky James Prinze, 9 months. Gellar has embraced her role as a mother, choosing to focus on family rather than her career over the last few years.

Gellar appeared on Fox News Health on Tuesday to announce her partnership with the March of Dimes in creating awareness of the value of life saving immunizations.

Gellar spoke with Dr. Manny on Tuesday and said, ““I’m just like everyone else out there.”

“I’m a mom trying to keep my kids healthy, but I also have access to so much information that I can then go through it all and make it easier for people to understand.  You’re talking about an illness that doesn’t have to exist.  The only way to help fight against it is to get the vaccine, and that’s a simple way,” Gellar continued.

Whooping cough is on the rise in the U.S., with more than 41,000 cases developing in 2012, causing at least 18 deaths according to the CDC.

Gellar also stated this alarming statistic, “Eighty percent of the children who came down with it, they can track it back to a family member that brought it in, and 50 percent were the actual parents.  I know there’s nothing worse as a new parent than you thinking that you got your child sick…It’s a simple vaccination for an adult to get every five years, and that’s it.  It’s the only safe way to prevent the child from getting the disease.”

Gellar said it is important for adults to get the pertussis vaccine to protect babies around them who may be immune compromised. She said that her children have had the shot and so has she.

Gellar said it is important for people to do the necessary research and talk with the right people before making any judgments.  Gellar, along with many health care professionals, maintain there are minimal side effects when it comes to getting the shot.

“I think there is a lot of misinformation out there about vaccines,” the actress suggested.

A non profit pro-gun advocacy group is aiming to arm single mothers in one of the most crime-ridden areas of Texas, in effort to help moms protect themselves and further study the effects the program has on crime.

According to an MSNBC report on Tuesday, the Armed Citizen Project, based in Oak Forest, Texas, seeks to give away free pump-action shotguns and provide training to single mothers whom they believe to be at risk. The organization’s founder, Kyle Coplen, 29, explains that the project is an experiment of sorts, to find out if arming vulnerable citizens leads to less crime.

Coplen says applicants have to qualify through a series of background checks and training. Coplen says if the program is as successful as he expects, he hopes to expand the program into violent crime areas like Chicago and New York.

Law experts such as Sanford Levison, a professor at the University of Texas, says he doubts Coplen will face any legal battles in Texas as what he’s doing is not against the law. Levison also cautions that even if crime rates do go down as expected, its success must be weighted against the likely increase in suicide rates which usually coincides with increased gun ownership.

When Coplen was asked how he might handle the political pressures to thwart his program in areas like New York and Chicago, Coplen said it’s a battle he’s willing to fight.

“If they’re going to deny folks their second amendment rights, that’s a challenge I’m willing to go up against,” said Coplen.

Coplen also added that the Obama administration should be on board with his efforts, saying the program combines “Joe Biden’s love of shotguns with Obama’s love of redistribution.”

A 5-year-old Oklahoma boy who has been staying with friends of his parents in Arkansas after he lost his home from a tornado, was mauled to death on Monday by a Bullmastiff dog.

The boy’s parents where in Oklahoma when the attack happened, trying to get their home rebuilt after a tornado in Moore, Okla. leveled their home on May 20.

According to MSNBC, the 150 lbs. dog attacked the youngster after he started crying. The boy was with his 2-year-old sister at the time. Authorities believe the dog mistook the boys cries as an act of aggression.

The dog’s owner, Lynn Geiling, 50, says she tried to pull the dog off the boy, but was too late. By the time she got to the boy, the Bullmastif dog had already punctured the boys neck and head, leaving him with deep wounds. The tot was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas shortly after the attack.

While the dog had run away during the commotion of the incident, police were able to track the dog down. Authorities say the dog will be euthanized. Authorities have not said whether they plan to charge Geiling or not.

A 19-year-old Virginia man almost died after drinking 3/4 of a bottle of soy sauce, on a dare.

Doctors submitted the case for publication in early June, as a way to inform medical staff around the world that excess salt consumption can be lethal, along with recommendations about successful treatment methods. Drinking excessive amounts of soy sauce can lead to hypernatremia, which is acute dehydration or lack of water in the body.

Subsequently, the teen wound up being in a coma for three days. His symptoms included seizures, twitching and near organ failure.

Physicians responded by treating the teen with a sugar water solution. According to Fox News, the teen was given 1.5 gallons of the water mixture within 30 minutes, a highly aggressive approach.

The teen responded well to treatment and fully recovered, although part of his brain showed seizure effects for several weeks. Doctors say the teen’s case is a case study for effective treatment. In the past, doctors moved to reduce sodium levels gradually with poor results. This time, doctors acted quickly and aggressively, resulting in a positive outcome.

Taliban militants in Afghanistan reportedly beheaded two children on Monday, ages 10 and 16, as punishment for stealing food.

The Taliban is an Islamic fundamentalist political movement based in Afghanistan. They have warned of increasing attacks against American forces this year, which they named their spring offensive.

Although the Taliban has largely targeted American forces in their country, the violent beheading of two local children has shown that children are not off limits to the Taliban’s terrorism and brutal forces within the region. The beheading was carried out as punishment after the 10-year-old allegedly “stole” food from a garbage bin around a security checkpoint. The youngster was reportedly beheaded on Monday, along with a 16-year-old, although his participation in the “theft” has not been confirmed.

The governor’s office broke the story in a press release, however, according to CNN, the Taliban has not issued an official statement on the boys’ brutal slaying.

A video of a 3-year-old toddler, who is apparently mature-beyond-his-years, has a heart to heart discussion with his mother about animal cruelty and his preference to not eat animals in a viral video his mother posted about two weeks ago.

The Portuguese speaking tot (video translated into English), actually brings tears to his mother’s eyes after he explains with such innocence and clarity, how he prefers to see animals alive and happy.

Through a series of questions, little Luiz Antonio discovers that animals are killed before they become meals for human consumption. This doesn’t sit right with Luiz, who thinks the process is rather cruel and sad.

“Is his head still int he sea?” Luiz asks his mother.

‘No’, his mother replies. Animals are at the market and chopped up before they become food.

Baby Luiz says in protest, “Why do they die?… I don’t like that they die. I like that they stay standing up. These animals, you gotta take care of them and not kill them!”

His mother eventually backs off her suggestion for Luiz Antionio to eat his octopus gnocchi and instead asks him to eat his potato and rice instead.
