Posted June 28th, 2009 by minortopics | via www.google.com

A 9 year old boy survived and rescued after spending a night by himself in the deep woods of Utah. Apparently, he got separated from his family and left searchers clues by systematically leaving personal affects along his path, a skill he learned from watching the show Man vs. Wild.

Nine-year-old Grayson Wynne of Heber City was found Sunday after getting separated from his family while hiking in Ashley National Forest near the Spirit Lake trailhead on Saturday, the Daggett County sheriff’s office said.

Searchers found a granola bar wrapper believed to be Grayson’s on Saturday night. On Sunday they found a small footprint by a creek bed and the boy’s backpack, which helped them realize he was following the creek.

Amazing story! Two cars were stuck on train tracks, caught up in traffic due to a Memorial Day Parade. One car made it to the other side while the other, a mini van with a mother, two toddlers and an infant was stuck. While the mother and the toddlers escaped, a nearby police officer was trying to undo the car seat when he was hit. The baby and the officer went flying but both survived!!

Wooo hooo.

He definitely broke his leg. I saw it break when he hit. He just told me, ‘Go to the car. Get the kid out of the car.’ Here he was lying in pain, and all he thought was about getting that kid out. Amazing,” Weiner said.

The officer was taken by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital. Partenfelder was also taken to Froedtert. His wife said that he was in surgery at 1:30 p.m. The officer’s condition is not known.

The baby was treated and released.

A 12-year-old who injured his head during a bike accident had his life saved by a doctor who used a household drill to make a hole in the boy’s skull to relieve pressure from internal bleeding.

The emergency “operation”, by local GP Rob Carson in the Victorian country town of Maryborough, was yesterday hailed by a leading neurosurgeon as “one of the gutsiest life-saving efforts imaginable”.

The drama happened late last Friday when Nicholas Rossi fell off his bike while riding in a quiet cul de sac outside a friend’s house.

Nicholas was not wearing a helmet and the impact of his head hitting the pavement knocked him momentarily unconscious.

Assholes steal boy’s wheelchair

Posted September 25th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.chicagotribune.com

A 6-year-old boy with cerebral palsy had his $5,000 specialized wheelchair stolen by the two worst people in the world. Thankfully, there’s some actual humanity left in the universe.

But when word broke about the Slaughters’ plight at the Country Club Hills City Council meeting Monday evening, Mayor Dwight Welch and the city’s aldermen took up the cause. Welch pledged $1,000 toward a replacement chair if the insurance company would not cover the loss, and he urged the city to set up a fund for the family where others could contribute.

By Wednesday afternoon, city officials said they were flooded with calls for donations from all over the Chicago area. Some offered cash, and others wanted to donate wheelchairs. RehabTECH, the Wisconsin company that built D.J.’s chair almost three years ago, delivered a temporary replacement suited to his specifications Wednesday night. “People have just been incredibly generous,” Country Club Hills spokeswoman Wanda Comein said. “It’s a bad story turned good.”

By the way, DJ Slaughter is our new official nightclub name.

Man catches toddler who fell from building

Posted August 4th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.courant.com

Sign this guy up for the Chicago Bears! They could use a wide receiver.

A diapered 2-year-old boy was perched on the 6-inch ledge of his second-story Main Street apartment at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, holding a cookie in one hand and the windowsill in the other.

Meanwhile, his mother, Crystal Simonds, 21, was still asleep inside, according to police.

As the boy looked down on the sidewalk below, pedestrians stared in horror, watching him sway precariously close to the edge.

Jeffrey Leonard, a 51-year-old Danielson resident on his way to the hardware store, noticed the scene, parked his car and ran beneath the boy — the only person to get close enough to the building to catch him, Leonard said.
