Posted February 24th, 2009 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

A 4-year-old girl is lucky to be alive after she survived a fall out a window 28 feet off the ground.

Police in the northern state of Aarau [, Switzerland] say the incident happened Sunday when the girl climbed onto a stove and opened a window to get a better view of a snowstorm. Guests in a nearby restaurant heard a thud and found the girl had fallen onto the sidewalk below.

Police say she suffered bruises and a broken rib, and none of her injuries are life-threatening.

Girl’s hand severed by jump rope

Posted September 25th, 2008 by minortopics | via ap.google.com

Keep your arms, legs, and jump ropes inside the vehicle at all times.

A 6-year-old girl is recovering after surgeons reattached her left hand, severed when it was caught in a loop of jump rope that had snagged on the axle of her mother’s car.

Erica Rix underwent 10 hours of surgery after the accident in early September and spent nine days in intensive care before returning home.

Erica was playing with a jump rope in the back seat of her mother’s car and let one end of the rope out the window to flutter in the wind.

“I wanted to see it go up and down because I thought I was going to fly,” she said Tuesday on NBC’s “Today.”

4-year-old girl shoots self — in a Sam’s Club

Posted June 10th, 2008 by minortopics | via blogs.usatoday.com

We would say a story like this falls firmly on the plus side for those who argue against allowing people to carry concealed weapons.

A 4-year-old girl shot herself in the chest this morning after taking a small-caliber handgun from her grandmother’s purse at a Sam’s Club in Columbia, S.C.

The child, who was not identified, was rushed to a hospital and underwent surgery. Doctors said this afternoon the bullet caused “no major damage,” the The State newspaper reports.

The girl’s grandmother was identified as Donna Hutto Williamson, 47. She has a permit to carry a concealed weapon. No charges were filed.

Parents don’t want girl playing on boys basketball team

Posted May 28th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.mercurynews.com

A girl trying to make her way onto a boys sports team is the stuff of after school specials and Lifetime movies. But usually the girl isn’t wanted because she’s viewed as a weak link on the team. But for Jaime Nared, a 6 foot tall 12-year-old in Oregon, it would appear that the parents don’t want her to play because she’s kicking their sons’ collective asses.

“If she were 4-feet-9 and no good, we wouldn’t be having this discussion,” said the coach, Michael Abraham. “To appease a small minority of parents, in this day and age, is stupid. This is a decision that really targets her. She’s a well-adjusted kid who happens to be great.”

Neal Franzer, the Hoop’s director of operations, said the parents were “adamant” that it wasn’t because Nared was too good.

“They said the problem was the boys were playing differently against her because she was a girl,” he said. “They’d been taught to not push a girl, so they weren’t fouling her hard, and the focus had shifted from playing basketball to noticing a girl was on the floor with them.”

Also, it’s believed there was great concern about cooties.
