Baby, kid, teens shot at parade

Posted August 11th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.wfsb.com

An infant and six other young people were shot when gun violence broke out after the West Indian Pride Parade in Hartford, Connecticut. What the hell? Apparently everyone doesn’t love a parade.

Police have identified the seven victims of a shooting following a weekend parade in Hartford as mostly children and teens.

The victims ranged in age from 15 months to 21-years-old, police said.

Police had originally said that three people had been taken into custody in connection with the shootings. However, Hartford police said on Sunday that no arrests had been made.

Suspected gunman susposedly distraught over divorce

Posted August 4th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

The mother of Scott Johnson — the man suspected of murdering several teens swimming in Wisconsin woods — is saying that he “turned inward” after his wife left him.

Judy Johnson shared a home with her 38-year-old son and described him as a once-carefree father who became introverted after his wife left him seven years ago and took their two children to Ohio.

“He kept saying, ‘I lost everything; I have nothing,”‘ his mother told The Associated Press on Sunday. “He just grew heartsick and started turning inward.”

She said she didn’t think her son had had a girlfriend since his divorce.

Police officers came to the Johnson residence on Thursday afternoon and left a business card. They didn’t tell Judy Johnson that they were investigating a complaint that her son had sexually assaulted a woman on Wednesday at the river.

Man arrested after threats to poison baby food

Posted August 4th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.techtree.com

Oh, YouTube, you double-edged sword — on the one hand you bring us delightful videos of people getting hit in the nuts. On the other, you’re a conduit for whackjobs to get attention.

Anton Dunn is currently under arrest after he posted a series of videos detailing plans to poison Gerber products — a range of baby food. In one video — Dunn, filming himself from inside a shower stall, claims that his “plan is in motion” and that four babies had already died. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has filed charges against him which could result in up to 10 years in prison or heavy fines.

“Critics will likely say it’s a case of authorities overreacting to a case of over-the-top, look-at-me comedy. But the Trashman videos, in which Dunn wears masks to disguise his identity and rants in a humorless tone, don’t look like they were made to make people laugh”, [CNet’s Caroline McCarthy] says through her blog entry.

Boy narcs to cops about mom’s counterfeiting

Posted July 31st, 2008 by minortopics | via www.bakersfield.com

A 10-year-old in California decided to tell the police all about his mom’s To Live and Die in L.A. remake. (Are we the only one that remembers that movie? God, we’re old.)

On June 25, Jessie Reed’s son told a deputy that his mother used a computer to erase faces on identification cards and make fake money in her home, according to a search warrant. The boy does not live with his mother who resides in the 400 block of Crawford Street.

The son took copies of the money and gave them to a deputy, the search warrant said. He said Reed also has a machine that can identify if a driver’s license is legitimate.

Man grabs kid in mall, found not guilty by reason of insanity

Posted July 31st, 2008 by minortopics | via www.chicagotribune.com

A 19-year-old who grabbed a child on an outing to a suburban Chicago mall has been found not guilty because he doesn’t have the mental capacity to understand his crime.

Arthur Robinzine, 19, of the 800 block of South Wolcott Avenue has been in the custody of the Illinois Department of Human Services since January.

After Robinzine was arrested Dec. 6 for grabbing a 4-year-old Elgin boy from Spring Hill Mall, he was charged with attempted aggravated kidnapping and other crimes.

Robinzine was tackled by a chaperon and a cell phone company employee who worked at the shopping center. The boy was not injured.

3 kids shot in back seat of car

Posted July 31st, 2008 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

Three siblings, while riding in the back seat of their mother’s Mercedes, were struck by random gun fire early Wednesday morning.

A 10-year-old boy and his 4-year-old sister were in stable condition Wednesday morning at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, police spokesman Cpl. Gerardo Monreal said. Their 12-year-old sister was in critical condition at the same hospital, although her injuries were not considered life-threatening, Monreal said.

The shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. The three injured children were among five siblings riding in the back seat of their mother’s four-door Mercedes sedan. The mother was behind the wheel with an adult daughter riding in the passenger seat, police said.

Another relative was following them in a separate car when the shooter began firing into the passenger side of the Mercedes, hitting three of the children. The mother transferred the three injured children to the relative’s car, and that relative drove to the hospital, police said.

The interesting question to us is, where were they going at 1:30 in the morning?

Police find pot farm at Girl Scout camp

Posted July 17th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

Police in Indiana have found 5,000 marijuana plants growing on land that is partly used for a Girl Scout camp. Where they tipped off by the large number of empty Thin Mints boxes laying around?

Police found the hidden marijuana farm with plants in various stages of cultivation in a wooded swampy area of Kosciusko County, according to documents filed Monday in U.S. District Court in South Bend. Some of the plants were growing on land belonging to a local resident, while the bulk — about 5,000 plants — were growing on camp land. State troopers in an airplane spotted the plots.

Mario Comacho, 44, Mariano Gonzales, 38, and a juvenile were arrested last week after police found the farm. Comacho and Gonzales, both of Goshen, appeared for an initial hearing Monday in federal court on charges of possession of more than 1,000 marijuana plants with the intent to distribute. Neither man had an attorney, according to court documents.

Girl shows up at police station after home invasion

Posted July 17th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.suntimes.com

We’re going to teach our kids the route to our local police station ASAP.

Shortly after midnight, three armed men in masks rang the doorbell at a home in the 17200 block of Park Lane and asked the homeowner where the drugs were kept. The homeowner said he didn’t know and the men forced their way inside the residence and began searching for drugs, Country Club Hills spokeswoman Wanda Comein said.

While the men were in the home, a renter came home with her 10-year-old daughter. The girl saw the men inside the home and ran away, Comein said.

When the girl could not be found, police thought the girl might have been kidnapped. However, the girl showed up at the police station, 4200 183rd St., a short time later and the kidnapping investigation was canceled, Comein said.

Body found is missing mom

Posted July 16th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

Police have identified a body found in Wake County, North Carolina as Nancy Cooper, a mom who went missing out for a jog last Saturday.

Police Chief Pat Bazemore, of Cary, N.C., said Tuesday that medical examiners confirmed the body found the previous evening by a man walking his dog miles from Cooper’s home is that of the mother of two young girls.

“The search for our Nancy is over,” Bazemore said. “Nancy was murdered and our investigation is now a homicide.”

Bazemore said no suspects or persons of interest have been identified in the case. Cooper’s husband, Brad Cooper, has permitted authorities to search the couple’s home and vehicles.

Pedophile back in jail

Posted July 16th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.foxnews.com

Jon Schillaci, a convicted pedophile that has been on the run from police since 1999, is back in prison.

He traveled the country using various false names, including Jon Willis, Dylan Pierce, Christopher Keegan and Cody Keegan. He ran a pro-pedophile Web site, and he hosted an Internet radio show associated with the site.

And there he remained — with his picture on the FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted List, right up there with Usama bin Laden — until the law finally caught up with him last month.

Tips and hard-nosed detective work led the FBI to Schillaci’s home in San Jose de Garcia. Police commander Salvador Elisea said he didn’t know how long Schillaci had been living in the dairy town of about 10,000.

Girl killed in Chicago alley

Posted July 16th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.chicagotribune.com

Details as to what happened to 9-year-old Mya Lyons are still unclear after she was found stabbed in a Chicago alley. An autopsy has shown that it is unlikely she was sexually assaulted.

The 9-year-old had gone to bed about 11 p.m. Monday after telling her grandmother she was tired and wanted to sleep. About 10 minutes later, the family heard a door shut. The noise drew the girl’s father downstairs to investigate, relatives said.

After quickly discovering Mya wasn’t in the house, relatives went outside to search for her. About 15 minutes later, Richard Lyons Sr. found his daughter wounded in a secluded alley near their home. His anguished screams awoke the quiet South Side street where the family has lived for more than two decades.

“No! No! No!” neighbors heard Richard Lyons bellow. “Not my baby! Not my baby!”

Girl pleads with 911 for help for mom

Posted July 16th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.mercurynews.com

A 911 tape has been released in the case of a 9-year-old girl who watched her mother stabbed to death with a sword.

Jesus Humberto Canales, 28, allegedly stabbed his live-in girlfriend, Lucy Preciado, 26, in front of the couple’s four young children Saturday at their Lancaster home, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials. Canales fled the scene and was still at large Monday.

The girl called 911 early Saturday, telling authorities, “My dad just stabbed my mom … with a sword. He’s leaving right now. Please hurry. I don’t want my mommy to die. I’m scared. I want to go to my grandma’s.”

Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Whitmore said the call was “so horrendous it made a couple of the homicide detectives cry.” He said detectives described the killing as the worst they had ever seen.

Robber points gun at baby

Posted July 15th, 2008 by minortopics | via www.wftv.com

What kind of scumbag would stick a gun in a baby’s face, just to make off with a little cash from a pizza joint? Apparently this one.

The 1-year-old baby probably didn’t even understand that her life was in danger as the robber pointed a gun at her head.

“It’s bad, it’s bad to take advantage of a little baby just to get money,” said former employee Ramon Sanchez.

Money is what they were after. Around 9:30pm Sunday, two men stormed into the Mr. Pizza shop on Winegard Road and demanded cash. One pulled a gun on the cashier and the other pointed his gun at the head of the baby, telling the mother not to get any closer.

“Anybody who walks around with a gun and who’s robbing people, they’re dangerous. To take that gun and point it at a child, again that’s being a coward,” said Commander Spike Hopkins, Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
