A 7-year-old playing in a Sacramento park became a victim of a random shooting and now has a bullet lodged in her skull.
Yamilet Leon was with her uncle and brother near Robertson Park on Monday, when gunshots were fired, police said.
Seconds after hearing the gunfire, Leon said that her ear hurt, and that the pain felt like a needle.
The girl’s mother, Maria Calderon, noticed the bullet when she came home.
It’s unknown how the bullet came in contact with Leon, but police said with Fourth of July just around the corner, people may be randomly firing bullets into the air.
“Randomly firing bullets into the air”?! Stick with the smoke bombs and maybe a sparkler or two, people!

OK, this is just some depraved shit. Police found a woman in Kennewick, Washington whose feet and hands had been bound with yarn, she was fatally stabbed multiple times in the chest, and her almost full-term baby was cut out of her.
A 23-year-old Kennewick woman, Phiengchai Sisouvanh Synhavong, has been arrested for investigation of first-degree murder and is accused of trying to pass the infant boy off as her own in calls made late Friday night to emergency dispatchers. She was being held without bail Monday, with another court appearance scheduled Wednesday.
Court documents say blue mechanic’s gloves soaked in blood, a box cutter, bloody paper towels, yarn, a mucus bulb, baby bottle and baby socks were among some of the items found in Sisouvanh Synhavong’s purse.
They didn’t say whether the boxcutter was used to cut or stab Gomez and police refused to discuss details Monday.

These stories seem to be more and more common. They really demonstrate the need for parents to teach their kids responsible use of the internet, and how easily a small incident can blow up to something that may affect them for years to come.
A 12-year-old Westport girl has been charged with distributing a nude photo of a classmate to fellow students.
The investigation began on May 12 when the incident was reported to Westport police after word circulated throughout Coleytown Middle School that a nude snapshot was taken during a video chat and distributed to others.
The girl is being referred to Juvenile Court in Norwalk on a charge of second-degree breach of peace, which involves the distribution of offensive and indecent material. Her name is not being released because of her age.

A Duluth, Minnesota man is being brought up on charges after he allegedly tried to nab a baby strapped into a car seat.
Sgt. Jeff Skuza says the woman parked her vehicle in a garage at an apartment building. Skuza says she placed the baby in a car seat next to the vehicle while she tended to another child.
Skuza says a man walked up and took the car seat with the baby in it and started to walk away. He says the two got into a tug-of-war, with the woman trying to prevent the man from leaving.
Skuza says a friend of the man saw the struggle and pulled him away. The baby was not hurt.

The Shelby County District Attorney said the death of an 11-year-old girl was “heinous, atrocious and cruel” at a press conference, as the DA’s office brought up one of the girl’s relatives on charges.
Authorities found Katherine Helen Gillespie on Monday night at 5048 Kerry Downs Road after responding to a 911 call.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office today charged 35-year-old Ryan Gerald Russell, a relative of the girl who was living at the house with her, with capital murder.
Owens said the charge is capital murder because the child was under the age of 12. He did not elaborate on what he called the cruelty of the crime but said other details will come out in a trial.

It’s like taking jewelry from a baby.
A 3-year-old boy waiting to be examined at a St. Paul medical clinic became one of the city’s youngest robbery victims Wednesday when an unknown teenager hit him before tearing off the gold necklace the toddler was wearing.
St. Paul police spokesman Tom Walsh said the incident occurred about 11 a.m. at the East Side Family Clinic, 860 Arcade St. The unidentified teenager, who authorities believe is 17, hit the boy in the head, grabbed the necklace and ran from the waiting room before fleeing on a bicycle, Walsh said. The toddler was not hurt.
On a related note — toddlers wearing gold chains? Classy.

Oh, silly teenagers, if the movie War Games taught us nothing else, it’s that nothing good comes out of hacking.
County prosecutors allege Omar Khan, 18, of Coto de Caza, and Tanvir Singh, 18, of Ladera Ranch, broke into Tesoro High School in Las Flores to steal tests and change their own and others’ grades on the school computer network.
While Singh allegedly only tried doing it once, Khan apparently did it several times.
Khan’s been charged with 69 felony counts and could get more than 38 years in prison. Singh faces four counts and could wind up with three years.

Chicago seems to be having an alarming increase in public school student deaths, and now they’ve racked up the first murder of the summer break. Ulysses Simmons, a 14-year-old from Chicago’s South Side was shot to death supposedly because the offenders wanted his bicycle.
The Burnside boy, an eighth-grader at Beasley Academic Center, was mechanically inclined — he could fix almost anything around the house and on the car, even radios and computers, his grandmother said. He is the first Chicago Public Schools student slain over the summer break.
And it was all because of a bike.
“All I could do was pray in silence when I heard that,” Sharon Wright, his grandmother who raised him, said Tuesday as she mechanically prepared to bury a child.
“My Ulysses was a sweet, outgoing and kind-hearted son. He always did whatever I asked him, without any argument,” she said, still numb. “He was full of love, a good spirit, just one of a kind.”
