Jimmy Lee Dykes, 65, dead after 5-year-old hostage rescued.
Ethan, the 5-year-old Alabama Kindergartener who was abducted by Jimmy Lee Dykes, 65-years-old, last Tuesday has been safely rescued on Monday afternoon. The kidnapper is dead.
According to Fox News, a witness said he heard a loud boom before the boy was taken out of the bunker.
It is not yet clear if authorities shot Dykes or if Dykes killed himself.
Fox News reports that authorities stormed the bunker after negotiations started to go south. FBI thought the boy was in imminent danger after talks took a disturbing turn this afternoon.
Ethan’s 6th birthday is Wednesday and many believed the boy would have to celebrate his birthday as a hostage, held inside the 6 ft. x 8 ft. bunker. Ethan has been taken to a local hospital although he appears to be unharmed, police wanted to make sure he was okay.
Details will continue to come out about the behind-the-scenes operations and how Dykes was killed.
Ethan is said to have been reunited with his family at the hospital.
