Inspired by the TV show “The Biggest Loser,” San Antonio sisters Alyssa, 8, and Makayla Esparza, 9, have started a weight loss and healthy living challenge group on Craigslist.

The girls started the challenge group to try to get support from other kids their age who live in their neighborhood. They hope that the group will meet 2-3 times a week to exercise and learn about healthy eating. In the ad, Makayla writes, “My sister and I are 8 and 9 yrs old and we are overweight. We want to do something about it. And if you are a kid that feels the same way please join me in a 90 day project that I am working on…I want to meet with kids just like me 2-3 times a week for about an hour each time to do some fun, healthy activities.”

The program will last for 90 days, and will be free of charge, though parental permission is required. Makayla and Alyssa’s grandmother will be supervising the program.

In an interview with KSAT, Alyssa, who hopes to lose 20 pounds, says, “It’s better for people to be with you, instead of you just alone in the program.”

Makayla hopes to serve as an inspiration for other overweight kids. “If I can just help one person that’s overweight, and they can keep on doing this, that would be super great.”

The sisters have placed another ad on Craigslist asking people to donate unused or unwanted sports equipment to their group.

This is the first season of  The Biggest Loser to include children.
